I was soooo going to answer in a totally different way to this, but I suspect someone else will say the obvious.

Instead ask him why he would be reluctant about having a cat etc.

he probably doesn't like cats because hes never seen how wonderful there personality is, since they are shy around strangers and don't warm up easily.

i suggest you take him to a friends house who you know has a extremely friendly kitty and "hang out" as he starts petting the kitty and liking that certain cat.

tell him "see, not all cats are standoffish there are ones that act like dogs to"
then i suggest if you have a dog or your friend has one take him to a friends house or say the dog got "lost" take him to a high kill pound and since your looking for the dog and cant find it might as well look at the cats

he cant stop you

there are always very very friendly cats at the pound because if they are not they put them down =[

then after he goes in and pets one suggest causally how fun it would be to adopt on

if he says no, that's OK just let the idea grow on him
then for your birthday or Christmas or any holiday ask him for one but let him pick it out so he will like it.

before my bf met me and my cat, he hated cats. Then he fell in love with me and Titan.

But Justin (the bf) met Titan when he was only 2mos old. So we sort of raised him together. And I think thats why Justin likes titan so much.

So go the the humane society together and play w/the kittens, together. The cuteness will get to him eventually. Good luck!

You don't. Once you have a real relationship with common goals which all understand all is well. Are you w. this person for a reason and looking long term?

If you can't decide on a cat I suppose marriage, children, future and such are going to be tougher.

Some people just don't like animals. Forcing them on them wont help. Ask why they don't want one and go on that answer. Do you live with them and why do you want them to get one.. My husband doesn't like animals and I wanted a cat but I was there to take the responsibility for the animal. He was not as happy. If they don't like animals don't push the issue inless it will be taken care of by u.

From the other question, I'm guessing he has a big issue with the smell. So make sure you get him playing with a kitten somewhere without the smell. Kittens are lots of fun, and very cute.
