So I decided to get a friend for my male kitten. He is about the same age and the people we got him from said that they had just given him a flea bath and we didn't see on him so we decided to take him. Now I just found a flea on my first kitten who has never had them. We had gotten flea medication from the vet when we first took him but never put it on so we just split it up between the two cats. Was this a good Idea? Will it kill them? How do I get them out of my apartment??? We have flea killing carpet powder will this do the job? Please help I can't have an infestation!!

neither of the cats have ever been outside ..once they are gone do I still have to keep treating them with the flea medication?
I have found one on each cat now.

Flea baths don't work, which is why the cat has fleas. You don't always see the actual live fleas on a cat, you usually see the flea dirts but you have to comb to find them.
What was thes stuff from a vet? Use it, on both cats. Make sure it gets on the skin, not the fur. Indoor cats still get fleas - fleas can enter houses as easily as any bug! So I would suggest continuing to treat them or they'll just get reinfested.
Not sure about the carpet powder, where did you get it? Powders aren't great because they don't really cover whole areas, and don't usually contain useful chemicals. I suggest a spray from a vet.

A dose of Advantage from the vet will take care of them. Sometimes it IS just one flea.
Get yourself a flea comb and groom them, two or three strokes at a time, then pull the loose fur off the comb and look for small moving brown fleas. If you see any, crush them with your fingernails to kill them or shove the flea into a blob of vasoline. If you see flea dirt (dark specks like grains of sand) then you've got fleas on the cat who ate and pooped, so there's more than one. If there's no flea dirt, the flea just got there and you may have gotten rid of them by killing the one or two you do find.
It's not that big a deal. Advantage keeps all fleas gone for 6 weeks even in high summer (works more than the four weeks they say it does). The other kitten may not have had them either, a flea can come into the house on your shoes or clothing from outdoors.
It won't kill them. You can turn a dehumidifier on to dry out the air, which will help dehydrate and kill any flea eggs if you have a huge amount of fleas there--but it sounds like just the beginning of anything so the Advantage would clear it up.

Get some medication like Advantage and USE it. Go by the weight of the pet on the package. You can't just split it between cats, you have to go according to the weight requirements.
Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum, and then empty the canister or throw out the bag because the fleas can come out of the vacuum if you don't. You can also put mothballs in the vacuum to kill them, but it will smell up the place, too.
I prefer not to use products with poison in them, but before Advantage and the other flea products came out, I would bomb the house with a flea bomb and repeat in two weeks.
Since Frontline and Advantage came out, if you use them once a month and properly, fleas are a thing of the past. You have to treat them promptly or they can really take over.

You can buy 7 Dust at Kmart, Walmart or a plant nursery to sprinkle all over your carpet like you do with Carpet Fresh. Leave it overnight then vacuum.
You can also put that on the kittens as well. It is made from dried and processed chrysanthemum flowers and won't hurt your kittens. You can also dust the cat and the kitten with it, making sure to avoid the eyes, nose and mouth area.
Check your cats for fleas regularly and remove any that you see. You can squeeze them between your thumbs or hold a Q-Tip on them that you've dipped in rubbing alcohol until they are dead. If you keep up on all the fleas on your pets, they won't be able to multiply!

First, wash your cats. Continue applying the flea medication. Get your kitten a flea collar. If you still see fleas, get some bug bombs from the market and bomb all your rooms.

Wash your kitties and keep them in an area where fleas are less likely to be and thoroughly vaccum all areas that can be vaccumed. also wash all linens if kitties were on bed or somewhere with cloth etc. the powder may help when you vaccum but you want to make sure its pet safe. goodluck!

All you have to do is get Frontline Plus from your vet. It will kill everything, even from your carpet. Don't use anything one your carpet. It usually doesn't work and its harmful for the cat.
