A person i know has a cat and on a recent visit to their home when i bent down to pet him, instead of feeling soft fur i felt a hard patch. His entire top of his head was one huge scab, and being an outdoor cat it looks like he got attacked by something

I was horrified, and asked how long has the cat been like that and she replied "i dont know" and finished doing her dishes. The cat didnt appear to be in pain, but who knows if the thing is infected or not. its not bleeding, its completely scabbed over.

My question is: What happens if i bring this cat to a vet but i dont have the money to pay it? I really dont have the funds, and i know she is on social security and wont be able to pay for it either.

I will NOT call animal services on her, because this is the first she has ever let something like this happen and in the real world, sometimes people dont have the money. to all you people who are going to critisize "she shouldnt have a pet then"...save your breath.

He's nine years old, and we brought him to the vet last week, and she said he's overweight, and needs to loose five pounds. She suggested we switch him to low-cal cat food and encourage him to excercize more, but he won't eat the food, and when I try to play with him, he just gives me this "are you crazy?" look. Please help!

I just change my cat's litter box with different litter. I used to use Members mark from Sams Club (scoopable) But now I am trying this kind called Tidy Cats (does not say). MY cat has been sitting right next to the litter box looking in it like there is something wrong. She went in it two times. I am not dumb but i felt like asking.

Hi, my 6 yr. old cat may have kidney disease (will find out for sure on Friday) and my vet prescribed Hills K/D in the meantime until his next blood/urine test. He hates the food and when he does eat it (I got both canned and dry) he throws up. But when I get him the "unhealthy" canned food that has all the bad stuff in it (like phosphorous and sodium) he finishes it and doesn't throw up. I've looked into homemade recipes but they seem too complicated and I'm afraid of adding all those vitamins and oils they suggest.

Are there any healthy and simple foods that a cat with kidney disease can eat and how would I make it tasty without adding salt? Stuff like boiled chicken and rice, is that good for a cat? If he continues eating the regular cat food that's not good for him will that shorten his life span considerably?

The names I gave my kittens are still nice, but I would probably call one Zip and the other Persistent. What about you?

My cat has herpes virus and gets alot of URI's. Two weeks ago, I asked a question and alot of people told me to give her l-lysine! Since then, her eyes aren't watery anymore and she stopped sneezing. She looks much better now! Now, all I have to do is get her ear infection to clear up and that's coming along well too! So, I just wanted to thank the people who helped me with her!! I think she's going to be ok and I will continue giving her the l-lysine! It seems to be doing miracles! So, thanks again, it's really appreciated!!

I have had my male cat for a little over 2 yrs now and life has not been how I imagined it after adopting him as a kitten.

His (ongoing) flaws:
- He can be very aggressive - you can play w/him only so long before he attacks you viciously
- He will knock anything in his way on the floor for no reason
- He'll chew anything of personal value to me(he has lots of toys)
- He drools and "digs" on you persistently
- He doesn't like to be held
- He doesn't believe in "training"
- He is not affectionate at all (see number 4)

Latest flaws:
- I got him a friend and he plays too rough w/him
- He's been screaming at the top of his lungs from anywhere from 5am - 6am.

Pros:
- He's beautiful
- He makes for a lot of good stories

I've had cats since I was 6 and have never had a cat quite like him. I've tried just about everything and it kills me to think about having to return him to the shelter after 2yrs. What makes things worse, I love the new cat and he is exactly what I want in a cat.

My cat is around 8 years old, and just recently, he started peeing everywhere. He peed on my new bed, my dad's shoes, and anything lying on the ground.

He had surgery around a month ago, but we don't think this is the problem. His urethra was getting blocked because his urethra was very thin, so surgeons cut part of it off so he can' t get blocked. We are pretty sure his surgery has nothing to do with this problem. We are also sure it is not a mental problem, and he doesn't have an infection because the cat was on anti-biotics. This is probably not terriotorial either. Does anyone know what the problem is? Help!!

I put some on my new kitten yesterday. I stuck the tip of the dispenser between her shoulder blades and did all I could to get her to hold still but I didn't have another had to part her hair. Now I'm worried that it won't work. Should I reapply it? I have fleas in my house and they are driving me crazy. I have bites everywhere and so does my husband and my baby has a couple too. I'm really concered that if I didn't apply the frontline properly that the fleas will get worse. HELP!

She has toys, food and fresh water but just seems to cry all the time even when you stroke her or give her affection she just bites you or scratches you and does seem to want to be handled.

Other then getting rid of him. My cat, if the liter box is dirty which is about 2 days will pee on anything material on the floor. Or on the couch. But thats not all, if I don't pay him enough attention when I get home, like I went straight to bed one time after work. He actually peed on me.
The other thing is he claws my furniture despite the fact that I yell at him, and sometimes he won't even quit then and since he'd move if I got up to get him I have to throw something at him to get him to quit.
I've tried since I got him to keep him off the table and counters, and he gets really jelous of my other older kitty and attacks her if she gets any attention.
I love this cat, because he's the kind thats really hard to love, but surprisingly affectionate. But I need to gain control! Any suggestions?

Tomorrow I'm taking my cat to the doctors and he may decide to keep him. He's 21 and not until the past few weeks he's been completely fine. He started getting mats in his fur and my mom had to shave his fur off with a razor. He was a year old when I was born and he is the greatest friend I ever had. I know he's lived a long life but I didn't expect this to happen so suddenly. I don't know if I can handle this :(

I've only had her 4 days and the diarrhea started yesterday. She was checked out B4 adoption, had no worms and is seemingly healthy. I know she's had a change in environment, she and my other cat are having to adapt to each other and, of course, a change in food. She is getting Naturals dry food and a can of Friskies wet food a day. I was told to cut out the boneless, skinless chicken breast.

I'm concerned about dehydration as I never see her belly up to the various water bowls and fountain we have. I do put plenty of water in her wet food to compensate for this but I'm still concerned. I am reading so much about this dehydration thing.

I'll be bringing a sample of her stool in to the vet on wednesday for testing again. Am I unduly worried at this time? How long do I let this play out? Does she just need some time to settle in???

Thank you, everyone, for your input, suggestions and reply.

For about 2 or 3 days now my 6ish year old cat Ash appears to be limping around. She still manages to jump on chairs or up the stairs, but she seems to almost collapse sometimes when she puts her wait on her back right leg it seems, might be both. We are going tot he vets tomorrow with her to get it checked out, but was hoping someone here might be able to give an answer. She doesn't appear to be in much pain, and is acting normally, if a bit more lazy.
Thanks
Gav

Sorry my question was worded strangely, but there is a lack of space to ask longer questions. My 19 year old cat has started, in the last couple of months, from time to time, to produce a very deep whining sound. She is,nt in pain, and is otherwise perfectly happy, but for some reason, she does this a few times a day.

Took my 9 MONTH old kitty to the vet, she was "leaking" blood, going to her litter box every 5/10 mins or so.
She is indoors only, eats the food that OUR VET recommended.
She eats and drinks normally.

So my kitty started going to her litter box every 5 mins or so, but not actually peeing.
When she went to her bed I noticed she was "leaking" blood...

I called my vet and was told to go to emergency.

I met my vet there, and she examined the cat, made her pee and there was a lot of blood.

She says that because of her bad diet, she already has crystals, which is making her not filter things through, making her bleed.

My vet says its called a lower UTI.
...So, what's the matter here?! I've been giving her the food that MY VET RECOMMENDED when I first got my kitty.

Now I have two different medicines to give my cat every 8 hrs. and she will have to eat Hills CD prescription food.

I don't know if I should trust my vet. I will give my cat the medicine, but what about her diet?
