Most vets spay and neuter at 6 months of age. Female cats usually begin their first heat around 6 months of age; however, male cats become fertile around 4 months of age. So make sure you keep your cat away from any males until she is spayed.

If the kitten weighs 2 lbs, then they can be safely "put under" for the operation..
However, 5-6 months of age is usually the perfect time.
You'll find many vets prefer to wait until 6.. but in certain circumstanses (if you have a boy and a girl the same age) I would reccomdend finding someone who will do it earlier.
Females can on rare occasions (early bloomer) get preggo as young as 4 months, so keep that in mind.. keep her inside from 4 months until fixed. Conversely, the youngest a male could GET a female pregnant would be 5 months old, again, not "The norm" but an "early bloomer."
NEVER wait past 6 months to dexex a male cat! He may start spraying! THis behavior can ruin your house, but is almost 100% preventable with neutering BEFORE he develops the habit.. Don't wait past his 7 month "b-day!" and you'll be fine!!

I cannot believe these answers! You can spay or neuter a kitten at about eight weeks! You certainly don't need to wait until they are mature because by then they might have kittens! Come on people... there are millions of unwanted kittens in this world that are either put to death or die a horrible death on the streets.
Please, please, please spay or neuter your kitten as soon as possible! Go to a reputable vet and have it done when you get all of the kitten shots and vaccinations. There are too many unwanted kittens, and the only RESPONSIBLE thing to do is to spay or neuter! I don't mean to sound like Bob Barker, but SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET!

Hi! If the kitten is a female- 6 months. If it is a male, generally it has to be anywhere between 5-6 months also, just as long as the testicles have dropped. At that point it can be neutered. Hope this helps you!

From between 5-6 months, same as dogs. Different vets have different protocols, ring to find out what yours is so you know when to book in. 5-6 months is usual, this is old enough for the op, but usually not so old that females will be able to go into heat or males will be sexually mature.
