My cat has anemia from flea bites. The fleas are gone but she has lost loads of weight and won't eat much. What's the best thing to feed her to help her put the weight back on. Do they have irnon supplements for cats??

I had this problem with a cat I rescued a few years ago. She is extremely weak right now. On the advice from my vet I actually took a syringe without a needle of course and withdrew the liquid from canned cat food and force fed him for about 3 days. She definately won't like it but it works to build up their strength again. Also try a can of tuna in oil to boost her sense of smell and appetite. She should be back to normal as far as eating habits in a week or so.

Did your vet not suggest a good cat food or put her on some vitamin supplements? We've purchased Hills from our vet for years now and all our feral tamed/rescue and stray rescue cats have thrived on it. I've read allot of negative things about cat food brands but Yahoo is the first place I've ever seen people claim that Hills is garbage. Makes me curious. We had a cat that was anemic and he continued to eat just his Hills and while he never gained much weight, he was a healthy weight. That was all we did for him except to take him to the vet a little more often in a years time for re-checks. Wish I could offer more.

You should just feed her on a regular high quality cat food and she will gradually get her strength back. Supplements should not be given without supervision of a vet - take her there if you haven't already and they can give her a vitamin shot to help her body regenerate some red blood cells.

The best food is Wellness, for any cat, it has healthier meats. Also, use a B12 vitamin, that helped my cat overcome anemia -- but make sure it starts with M, not the cyto stuff -- you will see what i mean. The good stuff is the only one that works, the stuff that says "cyto" something won't do anything. Go to Whole Foods or HiHealth and look for it there..

I'd recommend a high calorie diet like Hills a/d or Eukanuba Max Cal, either of which you can buy from a vet.

I would strongly recommend that you seek the advice of your veterinarian-he/she will give you the best advice. Good Luck.
