I have been giving extra attention, playtime, Temptations treats, belly rubs, and still no purring! Our Jack has a loud motor but since his new sister came into the house-it's gone away! What can I do?

Keep telling him he is your #1. Sounds silly but it works.

Most folks just buy a cat and drop it in the house and expect the king or queen of the house to get accustomed to it without any problems, all you have to do is separate them for a couple of days but let them smell each other from under the door when they stop hissing and scratching they will then smell like each other because they will be eating the same food, then when you put them together for the first time you must carry the littlest one until the older cat stops making a fuss. but remember the most important thing they must have separate little boxes they will or may use both but then that's their choice, the next time never just bring in a new cat without properly introducing them by separating them until they are ready to meet.

My cat, who I gave to my grandmother after her husband passed away, used to purr as a kitten, but eventually stopped altogether when she got older. She basically became less social with age.

I think some cats, like people, are just not as social. I don't think it's a problem or anything. Kitty (great name huh?), despite our efforts, is just not as friendly as other cats. Overall, I think it's just a personality thing and nothing to really worry about.

It will take a while for your cat do adapt to these changes, he's obviously not impressed he has to share his DOMAIN with another cat.
Just let them get used to echother and he'll eventually get over it, just try not over compensate with jack & treat him as you would prior to the arrival of your new kitty.

Hes obviusly just jelouse, it could take years for him to get used to it, or maybe never .
p.s i don't mean that to sound bad.. i love cats but they are very set in routine and it can knock them when things change;/
One of my mothers cats still dosent speak to us since me and my sister left home

Get rid of the kitten.

Seriously, he's jealous and needs to adjust like George said.
