I am quite familliar with what a female cat is like in heat, however my kitten has been acting a little differently lately and I am just wondering if she could be going into heat soon.
She's approximately 4 and a half months old, and is a generally affectionate little girl. However, for the past few days, she has been especially affectionate. She is constantly wanting to cuddle, giving kisses (she licks my nose when she's happy), and nuzzling my face. She has also been 'calling' me a little more often than usual. She will usually meow to me if she hasn't been able to find me for a while or wants something, but she has done it a couple times today for apparently no reason.
I am unsure what to think of the personality change. She is VERY affectionate when she is tired and calm, so it might just be because she is 'settling down' and isn't so hyper all the time. Or she could be jealous of my other kitten. Or it could be the beggings of heat.
Any ideas what would cause the change?

1)has the weather changed recently? that could cause a cat to be tired and more affectionate, because she isn't as excited and busy.
2)have you been feeling down lately? cats are very sensitive to the feelings of humans, even when the human does not realize they show it, or even that they feel it.
she
3)perhaps she has just reached that age where her curiosity has been satisfied for the most part. also, when there is a younger kitten and an older cat, the younger one will seem to grow up faster, as it mimics the older one, trying to be more calm, content, but also alert and seemingly wise.
4)if she's in heat, there should be physical characteristics of it. does she hump objects or people's feet? also, you should notice that she purrs much louder and often with a higher pitch than usual. she should also probably be more attracted to males, even human males, and be drawn to their voice and smell more than a female.
hope that helps some.

Females usually go into heat around 6 months of age. Is she letting off a musky type of smell? If so, then she is in heat. Also, they bleed a little for the first week of the heat so that is another sign she is in her estrus cycle. She is most likely just being loving. Most cats when in heat meow very loud constantly. Get her spayed at 6 months of age.

It definitely can be her going into an early heat. The standard characteristics of a cat in heat, with yowling and putting their butt in the air and treading, etc. will happen as she ages and continues to go through heats, and not necessarily in the early ones.
A lot of vets will spay them while in heat now, but I still think it's better to wait. Since she's still young and not really uncomfortable or causing you any discomfort, I'd wait a week or two and take her in.

This isnt rare behavior for a kitten. My male cat of the same age is doing much the same. He even does the affection call.
He is very vocal when he wants something or isnt able to get to me. He also insists on being on my lap and getting attention and likes to get in my face and climb on my shoulders. Just like any young animal they crave attention and play time.
Normal behavior for an affectionate cat. Dont worry it wont be long when she just comes to you for food or to be let out.
But I have heard you can get them fixed this young. Better now then to late.

The S.P.C.A told me that kittens could go into heat between 4-5 months of age; so, I wasted no time in getting my little female fixed; Ole George got it too. LOL

Tap her with your fingers on the top of her hip bone, or behind on the bloomers section of her back legs. If she hikes up her butt and swings her tail sideways, yep, she's in heat.
She's a little young to be in heat, usually it waits till 5 or 6 months, but it's possible.

Though rare, kittens CAN start the heat cycle as young as 4 months.
Time to get her spayed...in heat or not, they can now be spayed that young.
