My cat Jake is 12 years old and has always had a very loud insistent and somewhat irritating meow. However, in the past few days he's developed some kind of cat laryngitis -- he has no voice at all. He seems fine, eats well, has no fever or other symptoms. Has anyone had this happen to their pet cat?
I know I can call the vet but he doesn't seem ill.

Hi all!

My sister is looking into getting a kitten for the first time and would like to know what does she need to get to prepare for it? Also, is it safe for a kitten to be left alone in a house? As my sister is only going to have the cat inside, she's just trying to think of ways for it not to be destructive. Everyone in our family has always had dogs, so this will be the first time that someone tries for a cat. Are they better than dogs?

I have two cats and I'm thinking about keeping them outside along with a cat door so they have access indoors. What dangers are there if I keep them in my fenced in back yard? I'm thinking about putting up PVC fencing instead of wood. Will this help? Will they go to the bathroom in the lawn or do they still need a litter box? They have their shots. Anything else I should be aware of? I'm in Florida.

I'm a cat lover and I have a beautiful grey cat.
Last night my son(who has anger problems)hit the cat with a metal toy.
Now the cat has a cut a little over a half an inch long on it's head. It's pretty deep too. She's bleeding and making a mess. She has already ruined a very nice towel.ll have her under the recycle been now with a weight on top.

The vet wanted $60 to sew her up.I didn't want to spend that kind of money.

Any ideas?

My cat is due to have her kittens any day. I wondered if a mother cat will clean up when the kittens go to the bathroom. She is inside - and not used to it. I just wondered what I would need to do in order to make sure the kittens and their bedding area stay clean.

Also, when do the kittens start using the litter box?

I have a 6m/o black cat, she is so darn adorable it's pathetic.
She is generally an indoor cat but for about an hour a day i let her go out back in our yard. She likes it, but not for too long. Well, today i thought she had found a baby chick and killed it, so i ran outside to see this thing running of and it was lil bunny no bigger than my palm. I never thought Beau would kill something, she is just so sweet natured and gets along with our dogs and neighbors pets, she wouldn't even swipe my neighbors fish. But she literally skinned this bunny and has been acting so strangly all day. The look in her eyes is no longer that sweet look, she just looks different and is even acting different, more aggressive. My 2y/o dotes on this cat but when she tried to pet Beau, she got swiped at (not cut). Should i be worried about diseases infecting my kitten, how do i clean her nails of the nasty stuff caught under there from the bunny? She won't even let me bathe her anymore, she used too....

it doesnt make since. im against neither, however i dont understand how alot of people are cutting open there cats an cutting there balls off , then makeing other people feel bad about haveing thier own cats de-clawed. i bet if you asked a cat which he would rather have im sure it would be his balls, but thats not the point.
an dont say one is nesasary over the other because ethically they are both surgerys the cat would rather keep both so what do you guys have....

When cats are spayed/nuetered, it helps to keep the unwanted pet population down and helps to keep them from wandering off and being killed. It is done for the weel being of the animal. Declawing your cat is just a convenience thing for the pet owner. There is no comparison.

on Sunday afternoon . She was fine on Sunday night with her babies but on Monday night she kept taking a kitten to my friends bedroom, friend returned the kitten a few times (back to the nesting area) and eventually the cat stopped bringing this particular kitten upstair but yesterday myself and friend were out for a while and i went back to hers for coffee and we were shocked as we couldn`t find mummy cat and kittens ( the only kitten left in the basket was the one that cat had been taking upstairs and dumping ) we found mum & kittens under her daughters bed but why is she always leaving this particular kitten out , its as if she doesn`t want it , it was the last one born and even the other kittens seem to try and push it off mums teat when trying to feed .. We had to remove the other kittens for 5 minutes so this poor little one could get some milk from mum ... Does anyone know why mummy cat is behaving this way ? Is she rejecting this kitten ? Any help at all is much appreciated ..

Indoor cat developed a hacking cough 2 weeks ago. Assumed it was a hairballl. After 5 days of this cough not improving, and no hairball or vomit ever coming out of the cat, we took him to the vet.

3 visits to the vet:
-Bloodwork: no signs of infection. Potassium was a little lower than the standard, but still in a healthy range.
-Two x-rays discovered that his colon was backed up and his stomach was full. An enema was given to him along with an anti-inflamatory shot. Cough returned nearly 24 hours later.
-Round 2: Vet determined the cough was A.) allergies or B.) something caught in his nose. Antihistamines didn't help. The next step is to put him under and inspect his soft pallet. We are going to seek a 2nd opinion before going through with this process

The number of attacks have gradually decreased. What was once 5 times a night at a minute each, are now 1 or 2 a night (still at a minute each). Any ideas?

We just moved out here from Buffalo, NY. I am looking for a vet for my 2 cats. However, I would really like one that is well versed in feeding cats a more natural raw food diet. Most of the offices I've called don't even know what I'm talking about (I just had a vet tech talk to me for a good 10 minutes about why I shouldn't feed my cats human food (I asked about raw chicken).

Hopefully, there is someone around here who is feeding their kitties a raw diet and have a wonderful vet whom is supporting them every step of the way.

So, since I've gotten nothing but good advice from all my fellow yahoo users in the past, I run to you once more.

Thanks so much!
