Indoor cat developed a hacking cough 2 weeks ago. Assumed it was a hairballl. After 5 days of this cough not improving, and no hairball or vomit ever coming out of the cat, we took him to the vet.

3 visits to the vet:
-Bloodwork: no signs of infection. Potassium was a little lower than the standard, but still in a healthy range.
-Two x-rays discovered that his colon was backed up and his stomach was full. An enema was given to him along with an anti-inflamatory shot. Cough returned nearly 24 hours later.
-Round 2: Vet determined the cough was A.) allergies or B.) something caught in his nose. Antihistamines didn't help. The next step is to put him under and inspect his soft pallet. We are going to seek a 2nd opinion before going through with this process

The number of attacks have gradually decreased. What was once 5 times a night at a minute each, are now 1 or 2 a night (still at a minute each). Any ideas?

From looking at the video, it does indeed look like he's trying to cough up a hairball. Have you given him anything to try to dissolve it if it is one? Tender Vittles makes little morsels for hairballs, give him 4-5 a day until he stops the coughing.

I would also go for a second opinion before going thru with the pallet procedure.

Good luck and you have a beautiful kitty.

Saw the video.

Poor Stanford!! Give him a scrtichy for me!!

Definitely looks like he is trying to bring something up!

how often do you feed him? What do you feed him?

Is he allergic to an ingredient in his food possibly? What kind of food? Where is it stored?

His stomach was full and colon backed up -- sounds like he is absorbing his food very slowly -- OR eating too much

If you free feed him, try feeding him just twice a day. Don't make him Fast or he may get Fatty Liver disease.

Does he get a bowl of fresh water every day? Cats don;t drink very much, as they are descended from desert animals.

If you feed him wet food, add a little water to it so he gets a thick "Soup" of food.

AND-- I am NOT a Vet-- I am owned by 3 cats and each one is different so this is just "stuff" I have learned along the way.

BEST OF LUCK!

Ah, poor thing! Definately trying to bring something up though. Have you asked your doctor about anything you can give him to make him throw up? Not something that will hurt him physically or anything but it sure looks like something is caught in his throat. Maybe he has a digestive problem, which would explain his full tummy and his gagging. I hope he gets better soon!

I study this two times. the way you layer longer tale-appropriate prose is admirable, and a few thing I certainly have lots concern with. you're making it look user-friendly, organic, yet all people who write comprehend the choice is genuine. I many times degree the effectiveness of a chunk by ability of the kind of TD's........Jealousy rears that is eco-friendly head. Kudos to you, Mr Carney.
