on Sunday afternoon . She was fine on Sunday night with her babies but on Monday night she kept taking a kitten to my friends bedroom, friend returned the kitten a few times (back to the nesting area) and eventually the cat stopped bringing this particular kitten upstair but yesterday myself and friend were out for a while and i went back to hers for coffee and we were shocked as we couldn`t find mummy cat and kittens ( the only kitten left in the basket was the one that cat had been taking upstairs and dumping ) we found mum & kittens under her daughters bed but why is she always leaving this particular kitten out , its as if she doesn`t want it , it was the last one born and even the other kittens seem to try and push it off mums teat when trying to feed .. We had to remove the other kittens for 5 minutes so this poor little one could get some milk from mum ... Does anyone know why mummy cat is behaving this way ? Is she rejecting this kitten ? Any help at all is much appreciated ..

Take mama cat and her kittens to the vet. Contrary to popular opinion, mama cats DO need help in raising their kittens sometimes.

And PLEASE-- there is a HUGE animal OVER-population problem out there-- have mama spayed when the kittens are weaned - AND have the kittens spayed when they are old enough.

Here is a website that lists free or low-cost spay-neuter clinics all over the US

Cats prefer to be somewhere quiet and out of the way with kittens this small. They also prefer their kittens not be handled or taken away. There is always a 'runt' or smaller and weaker kitten but they usually manage to get enough to survive unless they are suffering health problems. The preferable solution is to try to resist handling the kittens for at least a few weeks and only intervene if this kitten is not feeding enough. Please remember kittens this small are very delicate, especially their tummies so are best moved by their Mother carrying them by the scruff of their neck. If they are disturbed too often she may hide them somewhere less accessible.

i have successfully hand reared kittens but you need to go to the vet to them all checked out if you take on the role of mum its hard work but well worth it first go to a good pet store and get a feeder and some formula a heat lamp may be good to the baby needs warmth and hot water bottles are to hot and get cold quickly you will need to feed the baby every two to three hours and to wash its bottom regular cotton wool pads dampened in warm water do try to put it back with mum and let it have some of her milk (some times a mum rejects the kit because its ill it may not seem so that's why its a good idea to check it out at the vets ) i do hope it goes well and good luck

She could be rejecting it. Maybe it has something internal wrong with it. Mommy cats seems to "know" when something is wrong, but that doesn't mean you should just let the kitten die. It might be alright and the mommy is confused. Keep giving it back to her. If she doesn't feed it, you're going to have to go to the pet store and get formula and bottles (get more than one) and feed the baby yourself. :) I have had to do this many times. It can be a pain, but it is so rewarding. :) Good luck!

Hi
I have had cats all my life & although its quite sad, there may be something wrong with the kitten & she knows it wont survive. If possible keep an eye on them but leave her alone as she may be getting anxious. or if she is leaving try & feed the kitten yourselves with a pippett or syringe every hour but you should massage its tummy so it can poo!! If all else fails ring your vet who knows of a fostermother cat? Good luck

usually when cats do this the kitten is sick and dieing.thats weird that she kept bring it back up there .now with the kittens doing it to their own sibling.make sure the runt is getting enough milk to eat,if not you may have to get a sirenge from the pet store and canned pets milk and feed baby yourselves,,,,call a vet in your area and see what they say,,,,you might have to get the little one checked out at the vets office to know for sure what sickness does she have .or maybe mama doesn;t think she has enough milk for the whole gang.....good luck to all the kittens and you and mama cat,,,,,,,

cATS WILL SOMETIMES REJECT A KITTEN FOR WHO REALLY KNOWS WHY. tHIS KITTEN NEEDS TO BE BOTTLE FED AND CARED FOR BY SOMEONE other than it's mother if it's going to survive. If you can't do it take it to a shelter or to someone you know who can and do it quickly. You can buy kitten formula at the petstore or google it to find homemade recipes. Also google newborn kitten care for orphaned kittens. It can be done but it takes patience and time. My friend has a 5 year old cat she nursed from a newborn. Good luck!

Just keep returning the cat to her an encourage the mum to feed. I don't really know what to suggest. Maybe you could phone a vet and get their opinion.

Good luck

there might be some think wrong with this kitten..so that is why the mum is rejecting it....you might have to hand rear it....get a soft toy and a blanket...and put it in a box in a warm place....don't leave the kitten with her alone....the mother cat might even kill this little one.....give this one extra attention...and it will live....

I think she probably smells of your friend because she carried her so much. Cats will reject their kittens if they smell wrong. If she stays with the other kittens for long enough she will stopTry to get her to feed until she is 8 weeks old, then she should be ok.
