Cats - February 2007

I have a 12 year old male cat, who's always been extremely sweet and affectionate. He'd wrap his arms around your neck and purr and kiss your ears. Our friends and neighbors know him and love him. He's also a great climber and loves to hang from doorways.
About 5 nights ago, we noticed he seemed to be alittle deppressed, like he was feeling under the weather. But he was eating normally, drinking and since he is an outdoor-potty cat we assume he's going to the bathroom as normal since he leaves a few times during the day to go outside.
Within about 24 hours we noticed he was being less responsive to affection and seemed almost freaked out.
You pick him up and he shrinks up, all stiff and tense, and won't make eye contact. He tends to sit on the corner of the bed with his face in the wall, or huddled on a pillow. Normally you can get him to relax to the point of jello by a good belly rub, but now he just stays stiffly in your arms...

My 10 week old kitten makes these funny little fast clicking noises from her mouth when you look at her and say hello does anyone know what this means?! and when shes goes to the toilet in her litter tray she meows before or after she has finished why is this? Also sometimes before she goes to the toilet she will lay in the litter tray and then go. Anyone know why? Many thanks.

I have a young male cat and he's been humpin the sofa cushions and stuffed bears more as he’s gets older he seems to be horny more often, he humps a big stuffed bear that is his toy. Sometimes he’s always nagging and following me everywhere i go in the house and he just meows and meows if i don’t give him the attention he wants. Ive never owned a cat before but he was a stray kitten and so i took him in. I let him loose outside and he basicly comes and goes as he pleases but he’s very lazy so I try to motivate him to go outside to play or become freindly with all the other neiborhood cats which theres quite a few. Im thinking maybe he needs a female cat to hump and that would help.. What can I do ? does he need a female cat? but why does he seem Shy around other cats? Im not sure he knows he’s a cat since he was very lil when I got him and was raised together with my dogs, they eat and sleep together I think he thinks he’s a dog.

My cat seems to go into heat? Could it be that she was unsuccessfully spayed? What are the "symptoms"? Is this a common problem?

I've decided to start a photo website showcasing the absolute cuteness of kittens playing in boxes. It's www dot kittensinboxes dot com (clever, huh?). Hopefully you or someone you know people would like to share pictures of their babies! Thanks!

Our 9 month old kitten arches her back and seems to have spasms. I've never had a female cat before. We do plan to get her fixed but have not got it scheduled yet.

My 5 year old male cat is nueterued and has just finished his treatment from a UTI. But, know he will not use the litter box. It's weird. I also read that cats may not use the litter box after a UTI because they associate the litter box with pain. What should I do?

We just moved to a new house that (yeah!) apparently has mice living in the field behind it. My cat, which I do not let outside, got out today. Now she is at the backdoor wanting to come in,but she has a half-alive mouse in her mouth which she will not let go of. I tried putting out some cat food hoping she'd drop the mouse in order to eat, but it's not working. I don't want the mouse inside (obviously) and I don't want to leave my cat out all night. Any ideas?

First of all, I want to say that I have my own two house kitties, that are well taken care of and I love them dearly. For a while now there has been a little stray cat that was so starving coming to my door. I can't stand the thought of a starving animal, so I've been feeding her. Lately the temps. here have been horrendously
cold, and I decided to take her to the Humane Society today. I wished I could have kept her myself, but with two cats of my own already, and the cost of vet bills to have her spayed and vaccinated, I just couldn't afford to. I know at least now she will have a warm shelter to stay in, but I feel so awful about taking her there anyway! Can anyone help me feel better?

As anyone who lives in a cold climated winter knows, it gets really dry and everything gets static-y. I have a persian, a maine coon, and my girlfriend has two short hair domestics. Aside from bathing and using conditioner (yes i have kittie conditioner), is there any way to help stop the static? Every time I go to pet or brush them it's like a tiny electrical storm!
