Our 9 month old kitten arches her back and seems to have spasms. I've never had a female cat before. We do plan to get her fixed but have not got it scheduled yet.

Not in pain, just really really, um, horny (for lack of a better word). Cat in heat will drive you NUTS with yowling, rolling, rubbing on carpet, howling, sticking butt in your face, arching back, tail quivering, won't settle down or shut up for nothin'. Nothing can convice you that spaying is a good idea like owning a cat in heat.

Please note that their ancestors origin begins in Africa, so that might explains it. Also from the time they are born, kittens have a keen sense of temperature from receptors on their faces. This helps them find their mother before their eyes have opened. As they grow into adulthood, these temperature receptors become even more sensitive.

Temperature receptors other than those in the face can be insensitive to temperature extremes. This is why cats can get burned without knowing it, so choose a heating source with reliable temperature control.

Hope this answers your question!

No, no pain more like an uncontrollable urge to mate.

I have never been in pain, just horny. I only felt pain when I couldn't get to it.

It's probably more like an itch you can't scratch.
