16 hours is the official calculation of the number of hours a cat actually "sleeps": however the do snooze inbetween which is why they seem to sleep soooo much

I have 6 cats. I swear that if there IS such a thing as reincarnation, I want to come back as one of MY cats. Sleeping 20 hours a day... eating, pooping (and not having to clean it up yourself, btw!) a little play time, a little cuddle time, then a nap because you've become so tired from all that cuddling!

Melody, who is 11.5 years old sleeps around 20 hours a day. Nice life, missy.

Scamper who is 8.5 sleeps around 16, then the young ones, Miss Weasley, Katie Belle (who are both 1.5 years old) and Remus J. Lupin and Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington (who are both 9 months old) sleep maybe around 15 or so hours. This does NOT include the cat naps for 20 minutes every hour or so, that only last that long because there are cats everywhere in my house and Mummy needs a place to sit down so move it kitty!

Anyway, 15 - 20 hours a day seems to be the norm... give or take a bit for kitty naps. What a life!

My daughter (almost 3) sleeps for 11.5 - 12 hrs at night and has a 1.5 - 2 hr nap during the day. I would most definitely disagree that 6 hours a night is sufficient for your daughter, most adults wouldn't do that well on this little sleep. When my daughter was younger she struggled with hyper-vigilance (being in a continuously alert state) and this seriously impacted her sleep (at 9 months she would only sleep for 20 mins at a time). It took lots of hard work and professional intervention to get her sleep as well as she does now. At the time I couldn't believe how little sleep she could get and still be happy and bright however I now realise how much better she functions when she truly gets the sleep she needs. I would do whatever it takes to fix your daughters sleep patterns now (get a second opinion from a doctor, talk to a health nurse or consult a sleep clinic) so that your daughter (and yourself!) can get the sleep you both need.

It might seem like they sleep 23 hours a day, but the general amount is 16 to 18 hours for an adult cat. Lucky them!

I heard 16-18 from somwhere. I am sure they could probably sleep all day if they were extra tired tho.
