Norwegian Forest Cats are a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL breed, and common...if you read Cat Fancy magazine and attend all the Cat shows. Since he was a stray, i can guarentee you with 99% that he's a Maincoon/American Tabby mix. If he has shades of stripes, or what looks like an M or a W on his forhead, and lines coming off the side of his face, he's got tabby in him. Hope this helps some, and wtg on saving a homeless cat. (hope he's a now fixed homeless cat!)

I too think that the stray kitten that adopted me is either a Norwegian Forest cat or at least has some of that in him. He is a little less than a year old now but his body and limbs are huge although his head is still small and kittenish. I read an article on the breed and it says that Norwegian Forrests do not reach full growth until they are 2 to 4 years old! He is black and white, has the full "beard" around the neck, the tufts at end of ears and between toes, the green eyes ringed with gold and the majestic tail. I thought that the kitten may have escaped from somewhere becuase he was clean when I found him. But no one came to claim him so he is mine now and a joy to me.

What are your reasons for believing this? I too believe I have a Norwegian Forest Cat. The reasons are she looks like one and she has many of the characteristics of a Norsk Skogg Katt or Wegie as they are called.

I got her as a kitten from someone who said the daddy had jumped 6 feet onto a window ledge and scratched through the screen to get to her unspayed house cat. She was the only one in the litter who looked nothing like the mother. The others were ordinary.

My baby has the beautiful green eyes and the intelligent sweet face with the silky fur, poofy tail and full ruff. She has the extra tufts from ears and feet. She is highly intelligent and a magnificent jumper/climber. She is highly active, even while I write she is running back and forth up and down the stairs dragging a Big Bird stuffed animal she "kills" every night and presents to me like a trophy. She thinks she is part of the family and I love her like she is.

That's not a very common breed, but stranger things have happened. Maine coon is more common, and similar in build.
