My kitty (5yr) is loosing some hair, not in patches..just when you pet her you get some hair in your hand. That's not usual in her. Didn't change her food lately, she is eating and drinking normal. She seems a little tired.. No chemicals in the house, nothing new except a 5 mo kitten we adopted. But her behavior changed in the last week... we live in FL...there is a season for hair loss as the humans in fall ? HELP! Thanks

She looks just tired, I have been looking real hard to see something different on her...I brushed her 2 days ago and It didn't shed as much as today.
The kitten has been in the house for 4 mo now..all cat's have the vaccines up to date.
She has been checked in sept 06. The vet reccomended a diet plan from Royal canin Calorie control, which she and my other adult female has been under for the last 4 mo.
I changed back to purina now, since they lost a couple of pounds. They weight 13 pounds both, they're in their healthiest weight now...
Maybe I just may wait a week or so...

Vet always suggest all kind of checkups and blood analisys even if the cat is strong and healthy...that's why I don;t trust them 100%. I feel that they don't truly serve a medical purpose ..but a corporative bussiness..sometimes

Thanks to all for your time!

First, most indoor cats shed year-round. Outdoor cats tend to shed more in the spring/summer.
However, the fact that this shedding is unusual for her, and that she seems more tired than usual, means that something is wrong. Cats are VERY adept at hiding illness from everyone, so subtle signs like this can be your first clue. Definitely time for a vet checkup to see if anything is going on.
Did you just recently adopt this kitten? It is certainly possible for the stress to cause your first cat to shed more and not act quite the same. But if you've had the kitten a while and only now noticed a change in your first cat's behavior, it probably isn't related. Unless: are your cat and kitten's vaccinations up-to-date? If not, there is always the chance that a disease has been introduced. Again, vet check-up and vaccinations if they aren't up-to-date.
Good luck!

Added: True, the vet will probably want to run some bloodwork on your kitty. That's really the only way to tell what's going on. Even though she is only 5, she may have the beginnings of some organ dysfunction, or she may have thyroid issues, etc. There's no way to tell just by looking at her! She may seem strong and healthy, but again, animals, and cats in particular, are very good at hiding their symptoms. It's better to find out what's going on now than to wait until she is very sick. And, if nothing is wrong, then you'll know right away and won't have to worry any more.

Does the cat stay in the house all of the time? If so, then it really needs to be on a food that is specially formulated for "Indoor Formula." This will help cut back on your shedding. Brushing at least a couple times a week is okay unless the hair is really long. Pounce "hairball" treats are really good for long hair cats. This allows them to "poop" the hair ball instead of throwing it up. If the cat is loosing hair in patches, it could be something else. Alopecia.........common hair disease (google it) and/or it could be a parasite like ringworm. If the cat scratches really bad in the areas that are loosing hair, my guess would be ringworm. Hope this helps.......Good luck.

My cat has been having trouble with patches of fur missing. She was excessively licking her belly clean of all hair. when I took her to a vet, he said it was an obsessive/compulsive behavior pattern similar to what people have - they have to wash hands repeatedly, turn light switches off numerous times, etc. He said it was a common occurrence and prescribed a shot of depo medrol. we did this and it lasted for about a month, the first week, she was really trancelike and very calm, which finally wore off until she started excessively cleaning herself again. Then we tried a liquid Prozac daily, liver flavor, which she hated but would eat on sardines. This cured her habit and the fur grew back on her belly and she was fine.

I've never heard of a cat losing patches of fur unless there was some type of skin problem, or this problem.

I suggest you watch her carefully to see if she's cleaning herself normally or if she picks at one spot more than others, especially if she chews at it with her front teeth.

There are many methods to make our hair grow faster, shine , glitter in natural ways without using chemicals. Learn here https://bitly.im/aLV4T Men, and sometimes women, notice that their hair is thinning prematurely for several different reasons. Age, menopause, pregnancy, genetics, illness, and other factors all play a role in hair loss. Sure, you can use drugs or you can go in for a hair transplant or fusion, but sometimes the easiest, most inexpensive solution, is to try to stop hair loss naturally.

Generally cats shed more hair in summer/spring.
However stress such as the addition of a new kitten can cause them to shed more.

Is it normal shedding? many fur bearing animals have a normal amount of shedding . It lets the old hair go when the new hairs are replaced.

yes. year round.

Accually cats do shed all year, but it's much more noticeable in winter and summer. they have shorter hair in summer and longer when it gets cold, so they lose their short hair in winter and long hair in summer. It's not anything to worry about.
