Cats - December 2006

I have a 11 month old Oriental Long Hair cat named Toby. Sometimes, if he runs outside, or if he breaks something, I put him in the closet for about 20 minutes. Does the cat understand he is being punished or is he unaware of the connection between being in trouble and the closet?

Does this make you cry?

Cat's Prayer

I hope I'm not asking too much, Lord, All I want is a home of my own, And to know when my next meal is coming Instead of the scraps I get thrown.

I've been out in the cold for so long now, Coping as best as I can, But it's not so long I've forgotten The touch of a soft caring hand.

I look in house windows at Christmas, As cats doze by the fire, quite replete - How I'd welcome a box in the kitchen, And tasty food for me to eat.

For me there was tinsel and giftwrap, But the fun didn't last very long - They put me out with the rubbish; I don't know what I did wrong.

I really don't want to be greedy, At the moment I'm all skin and bone, So would it be too much to hope for, That someone will give me a home?

My cat is 5 years old and has been, (for the past few months), pissing on shoes, garbage cans, Christmas tree skirts, Christmas tree branches, chairs, ETC. My question is why does he kepp doing this when I punish him and put in a pen for a few days and he gets out and does it again! Why does he repeatedly keep doing this!?

I am thinking about getting a real Christmas tree this year... but we have a 7 mo. old kitten who chews everything... including houseplants! Does anyone out there know if pine trees (specifically Douglas Fir, Scotch Pine and White Pine) are toxic/poisonous to cats?? Thanks!

Kitty is bored and very over-weight and desperately needs a little activity. He can't get too physical or he'll have an asthma attack, but he still needs a little bit of exercise and enrichment.

I've tried a few things already, like the ball feeder and hiding dry food around, but without success.
His hobbies are sleep, food, and getting brushed. ☺

I really need some helpful suggestions or tricks. Thanks. ♥

she has knots and tangles all over her hind legs area. I brush her about once a week and she hates to be brushed. I am not sure what to do, she is very feisty and will hiss and scratch at the brush now. I am very gentle, but she does not want to be groomed at all. I give her a bit of cat nip to relax her. I am thinking of getting her groomed with a "lion cut". But my main question is - why all the knots now when she has never had them before?

As of last night, my cat's left eye does not open fully and is watery. I tried to look closer and to wipe off any discharge (there wasn't much in fact) with a damp cloth. She kept it so tightly closed but the right eye fully opened. I could not see inside clearly and I didn't really wipe off anything. Now that after several attempts, she is no longer at ease when I tried to sit her down and pet her. When my attention is away from her, she also kinda groans in the same tone as when she was in heat. I'm so worried but don't know what to do.

He is 7 1/2 months old but he seems tougher than most cats cuz Ive had lots of cats before. He is VERY hyper and he always runs through the hallway and is CRAZY. So today he was running around
and he didnt see me and he ran into my ankle bone...and im sure it hurt cuz it hurt me and he hit his eye. So I went to see if he was OK and he was meowing really loud in pain like three times and was closing his eye so I was conforting him and then he just walked away like nothing happened and started running and being
hiper again? I don't think he ever learns his mistakes because one time he was on the rocking chair up high and he fell off on his side and was coughing a lot. And one time he was playing with a necklace that was hanging on the wall from a hanger and he jumped and hit his face on the mirror and hurt his eye and his nose and kept sneezing and meowing. He is always getting HURT!!!
And he went into a SMALL closet in the living room and my mom
didnt see him and he ended up being in...

I fed this cat that was on my patio ( it had a collar so it must belong to a neighbor) ground beef and noe its suffering. at first it looked like it was choking so i checked its mouth a little and didnt see any food in its throat. still it looked like it was semi-choking. then it left so i could only pray that it was still alive. now in the morning i see it sleeping on my patio. i check up on him and he is still meowing like he's in pain, except he cant be choking now. I think that he is having digestion issues and cant digest the ground beef so its just sitting in his esophagus maybe. he did start eating the hard food i leave out for my cat ( i know never to give ground beef or any large amount of real food).

What should I do? is there any laxative or something i can do to solve this problem? help!...

is that possible? We caught the mom and one kitten and had them picked up. We were planning on catching the older one and taking her to be spayed mid december. Made the arrangements with the vet today, while having her same age siblings stitches removed. IF she is somehow pregnant, could she be already having milk to give the little bros and sisters? Or are they just seeking comfort and she is providing it?. Mom has been gone for two weeks..all are feral.

I have just got my first kitten- a persian colorpoint (absolutely beautiful). She is already spoilt rotten by us cuddling her at every opportunity. She doesn't seem to know her name though and doesn't come when she is called. Is she just spoilt? Is there anything I can do to make her more responsive? (She isn't deaf cos she can hear loud noises!) Or is it just that she doesn't like her name- Sushi?!

I just ordered the King Cat 16 blade Stripper (yes, that's really the name of it...) to brush my cat with... anybody ever use this? She is longhaired and sheds like mad! It hasn't arrived yet, but I'd like feedback from people who have tried it, or something like it. Thanks!
