Does this make you cry?
Cat's Prayer
I hope I'm not asking too much, Lord, All I want is a home of my own, And to know when my next meal is coming Instead of the scraps I get thrown.
I've been out in the cold for so long now, Coping as best as I can, But it's not so long I've forgotten The touch of a soft caring hand.
I look in house windows at Christmas, As cats doze by the fire, quite replete - How I'd welcome a box in the kitchen, And tasty food for me to eat.
For me there was tinsel and giftwrap, But the fun didn't last very long - They put me out with the rubbish; I don't know what I did wrong.
I really don't want to be greedy, At the moment I'm all skin and bone, So would it be too much to hope for, That someone will give me a home?

Yes, I am now crying. It makes me want to go out and take in every little guy in the pound. I hope people who are considering adoption read it and give a nice kitty a home. I really hope people who are considering dumping a cat read it. Lots of times people don't think of the consequences of dumping a pet. They have feelings too. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!

That is very sad, but too true. You would be surprised at the number of domesticated cats that get thrown out on the street because they get pregnant, start spraying, or get fleas. Every one of those issues is totally under human control. There are just too many humans who expect the impossible.
If the plight of those street cats affects you, there are some things you can do. Keep a bowl of dry food on your back porch or in some other sheltered place around your house. Be sure to keep a bowl of water there too. Gets a bit hard in the cold weather, but not too hard for someone who really cares.
You might also consider trapping them and taking them to a shelter. While they might be euthanized, depending on which shelter, it sure beats dying a slow death from starvation, hypothermia, lingering disease, or poisoning.
There are a growing number of trap, immunize, spay/neuter release programs out there. It might be nice to get involved with one of those groups.

Yes, this is a sad poem, and I can relate to it because in my neighborhood there are many stray and abandoned cats. We feed them and our cat food bill every weeks is high.
We understand that a family moved away several years ago leaving their cats behind. The cats multiplied and now they depend upon the people on our street for everything. I guess we could call the Humane Society, but they are not a nuisance.
But, don't worry about them, they are healthy, and beautiful in colors of black, yellow, black and white, black bodies and yellow paws.
My husband takes pride in attending to them, and they begin to gather when they see his car in the driveway.
They will be remembered this Christmas.

I love cats so much and everytime I see stray cats I wanna bring them home.
But one thing I'm sure is that they don't ever pray as animals do not have a spirit in them like humans do through which we connect to God, who is a spiritual being.
