Do parrots such as the Monk parakeet enjoy insects or meal worms for variety and protein? Thank you for your input.I know they can be carniverous. What about in the wild?

I have a male cockateil. However, underneath the dark pupil of his eye (like the place on our eyes where tears appear), there appears to be a blood-red bit that sort of outlines the bottom of his eye. Its not bleeding like...dripping blood or anything.
Apart from that, he is acting normally - whistling, playing and active as usual. he doesnt seem to be in any pain...

Is my cockateil hurt?

How can I figure out whether my Budgie (bird) has lice, mites, or just dry skin? He is always scratching himself, and rubs his head against his perch often. Wouldn't I see the bugs?

Recently i found both my budgies dead next to each other on the cage floor. I dont understand how this could be, the one bird was 9 the other was young 2ish. I took great care of them and they had a big cage. What could i have possible done that would make them both end up dead? I am in tears everyday thinking about it!

I have tried to show him by eating a bit myself, but he flies away when I try and give him it. I've put it in his cage, but he just ignores it. I have to take it out before it goes off because he never touches it.

I recently bought this cage (http://www.chichomedecor.com/product_info.php?products_id=6534). It is made from wood, with vertical bars 1/2" apart. It has two swing-out doors, hardwood (unpainted) perches which allow for ample flying distances, and a bottom tray which slides out. It's 24" wide by 13" deep by 24" tall, not counting the vaulted top. Other than difficuly keeping it clean, do you see any problem with using this cage for a pair of canaries?

I got 2 new parakeets. One of them is calm and will let me hold her and comes to me, but the other runs away and won't let me touch it. What's going on?

My parents have an old (12+ years) cockatiel who has eye issues. It seems as though the inner part of his eye socket is slightly "puffy" (the part that actually holds the eye inside the socket). He's had this problem for a few years, and he tends to stick his whole head in his food bowl when he eats. I'm constantly cleaning food out from around his eyes. He can see just fine and seems to be in no pain, but I was wondering if his puffy eyes are a symptom of his eating habits, or does this sort of thing happen often in older birds?

ive had him since wednesday the 3rd and he has plenty of things in his cage to keep him amused but he sits in the same spot during the day, on the bottom of the cage, and does not move unless he gets scared when u walk by. im worried that he might be getting depressed. is it normal for him to be doing this? he hasnt touched his toys or his treat or the ladder or swing. any ideas as to why?
