Birds - January 2007

[Selected]: All categories Pets Birds

It 's eating and drinking and appears to be happy. It plays with the other chicks and looks very healthy. It is still fuzzy and does not have as many feathers as the others. I really hope it survives. Should I be giving it medicine and/or supplements, more heat? I'm doing everything I should be. The chicks food is medicated.

Maybe a parakeet or a conure. Any other suggestions on type or how to care for a pet bird?

Thank you.

Yesterday I got an 8th month old Cockatiel from this guy at a Pet Store. This is my first bird ever so I was told to make sure I got a hand fed one. Will the guy told me that he hand fed this bird and that it was tame. So, I bought the Cockatiel, took him home, and tried to pet him while he was in his cage and the poor bird went crazy! He started flying around his cage trying to get away from my hand, which I left still hoping he would calm down, but he never did calm down until I left. Then I tired again today and the same thing happened. I tried to give him a treat this time through the bars of his cage and he went crazy. He hissed at me once but never attempted to bite me. So my question is, is my Cockatiel just nervous because of the new environment or is he not really tamed, and if he isn't, how would I go about taming him?

We've seen them flying overhead for a few months but only a day or two at a time then nothing for several weeks. How do they decide where to make nests? Can we do anything to keep them in this area?

It's chicks keep waking me up at 5 :15 every morning and i am constantly thinking about what should be done.I was thinking of feeding them grain until they get fat so then i could cook them and pop them into a baked potato so i could eat them.

Do you have any suggestions of how else i can exact my revenge?

Through a bizarre sequence of events, I have come into possesion of a goose. The goose is angry, wilful and rude. To be honest, I am considering eating the bird. However, his presence is required at a cocktail party in Sevenoaks where he is to entertain some local dignitaries.
What is the best way to transport this goose with a minimum of fuss and to ensure he doesn't become overly irate?

This is an african grey parrot, whose owner has a cam stream hooked up 24/7. You can listen to him babling and trying to talk and see him playing with his toys. Lots of fun to watch.

I was wondering if it would ne ok to use a cockateil seed mix as a base? This is very readily available in my area. I know that they are small parrots type birds and the fresh fruits and veggies are a must, but I need to know a good seed base food for them.

I let them out of the cage all the time, before the eggs she used to come out and fly around, but now nothing at all, she dont even want to fly! please can someone help me, what should i do?

this is getting to the point where I just want to squash the darn bird. And don't say give it away! that is NOT a solution. However, it does need to stop doing what it is doing! Everytime I allow the cockatiel to come out of it's cage it attacks my cat and dogs! My cat tries to get away. she is really scared. When my cockatiel pecked her today, you could tell that she was hurt. I'm truly concerned for my cats well being. The dogs are no help because they are scared of the bird too. I'm so afraid that it is going to peck my cats eye out when I'm not around. The cage doesn't have a door. So, it comes out sometimes when I'm not home. I'm afraid that I'll come home to a dead cat that was attacked by this heartless feathered freak of a bird! what can I do?

they're quite new and productive (they already had 2 sets of babies). the female is yellow, and the male is violet. now, everytime they're going to have a baby, of course, its a mix of their colors, but there are babies which are white and red-eyed.
My problem now is, the mother always attacks her babies who are white. She's already killed one, and now, she has attacked one again.
What's wrong with her? is there a scientific basis to this? or is the mother just plain violent?

help please! thanks!!
