WOW... you consider a wingspan of 2 ft small?
I would not recommend an African Grey, Macaw, Cockatoo, or Amazon. Those birds take a special kind of person to own them. With your consideration of wingspan first, I'm a little troubled with why you have a desire to own a bird of this capacity.
What is it you are looking for exactly?
You should go to the library and learn as much as you can about all exotic birds that are kept as pets in captivity. Find out what each behavior is and if it will fit your lifestyle. Not all birds are created equal and your lifestyle may not accomodate certain species.
Another thing I would do is go talk to several veterinarians and if you have a qualified avian veterinarian in your area, go talk to him first. Get his opinion of what bird may fit you best.
I own six parrots. My lifestyle has had to change drastically to accomodate these guys. I wouldn't trade a one of them for the world now. But if I had known then, what I know now, I don't think I would have taken on a couple of them that I now have.
Big birds are a big responsibility!!! Be sure you know what you're getting into before you commit. There are too many birds out there now whose owners decided that they couldn't handle the bird's personality or behaviors any more and now the birds have become disposable. Its' very sad but true how many birds are in this situation. Birds are very sensitive. If they have to leave or they are taken from their "flock leader" (it's owner) sometimes they never recover and suffer severely for the rest of their lives.
So be sure before you are willing to commit yourself to the avian lifestyle. Not all is going to be fun and games. But if you are true to the relationship, it can be one of the most rewarding and loving relationships you could have with any animal on the planet.
Good luck.

With a wing span of two feet, that is not a small bird. The cage would have to be very large to keep him healthy. May I suggest you check out the lovable double yellow amazon. Not as large, but a great talker, with the right owner. When you say have kept, do you mean only for a short time? All birds require a lot of attention to keep them healthy and happy. to all those people out there who want a pet bird, because they are cute, talk, are pretty, a bird is a huge responsibility, vets that know about birds (and few do) are expensive. Be sure you are ready to become a bird owner.

the only birds that go properly with cockatiels are budgies and finches. the different birds are too vast and a cockatiel can no longer shelter itself against the bigger beak of a much better poultry. the better poultry may even kill the cockatiel in the event that they are stored in the comparable aviary. greater birds don't get alongside with smaller birds. this is the reason in the wild birds all have their very own territories and stay some distance faraway from one yet another. in case you combine the bigger parrots with the cockatiel it won't paintings out and your cockatiel could land up injured or lifeless.

A small parrot you say? well one with a wing span of 2 ft is not usually a small parrot.
Kakarikis, cockatiels Plum Heads conures and even budgies are small parrots. My choice would be a cockatiel They make delightful pets and bond very easily.

Go retro and get a cockatiel!
When I was a kid I had a Budgie, they're very small and good fun too. If you go to a good breeder, you can get some cool coloured ones too.
Never had a proper parrot.
Do your previous suppliers know you well enough to advise?
