I recently bought this cage (http://www.chichomedecor.com/product_info.php?products_id=6534). It is made from wood, with vertical bars 1/2" apart. It has two swing-out doors, hardwood (unpainted) perches which allow for ample flying distances, and a bottom tray which slides out. It's 24" wide by 13" deep by 24" tall, not counting the vaulted top. Other than difficuly keeping it clean, do you see any problem with using this cage for a pair of canaries?

The bars in the vaulted top are all 1/2 inch apart as well, so there is no danger of strangulation. I painted the cage again myself with suitable paint.
I have since gotten pair of female canaries, and so far so good. Cleanup has been easier than expected, the poop comes right off, without stripping the paint! Thanks everyone for the input.

Oh yes, and the size has been more than enough as well. They have plenty of flight space, and never crowd each other. 5 square feet works well for a pair!

*I should have written 'cubic feet' not 'square'.
