Hummingbirds can be found throughout North America, with ranges extending into southern Canada. Hummingbirds migrate north to the "States" from Mexico and South America during the summer. Hummingbirds prefer areas with lots of blooming flowers (they feed on nectar), most tend to avoid heavily populated areas like cities, but can be found in suburban areas. Hummingbird feeders that are brightly colored (mostly red) will attract hummers, as well as yards full of hummingbird-friendly plants, such as fushcia, hibiscus, butterfly bush, lantana, verbena, etc.

Hummingbirds migrate. I live in Louisiana and probably won't see any until this coming spring. I believe they head toward Mexico and Central America. Am sure your friend, if she puts up the feeder in early spring, will see them flocking around then. They will only appear where they can find food. So my guess is she will see them then.

Hummingbirds will come around if there is food available their habitat is everywhere and when they leave Maine (where I live) in early Sept they go south they like it warm!

They are migratory, so they will only be there portions of the year. But yes, I saw some down there 2 years ago while vacationing in Cocoa Beach, so they do come around =)
