I have a male cockateil. However, underneath the dark pupil of his eye (like the place on our eyes where tears appear), there appears to be a blood-red bit that sort of outlines the bottom of his eye. Its not bleeding like...dripping blood or anything.
Apart from that, he is acting normally - whistling, playing and active as usual. he doesnt seem to be in any pain...

Is my cockateil hurt?

It sounds like a minor eye injury and even in humans who seek treatment for scratched corneas, they tend to heal on their own with or without treatment. His eye could have acquired a minor irritation. There is no cancer connection here and even if there was, there is no cure. Is the blood-red "bit" a piece of something that isn't part of him? In other words, is it a foreign body? If this is true, it needs to be removed. Take a real close look at it with a magnifying glass or reading glasses from an older person.Wait 3-4 days if it isn't a piece that shouldn't be there and see if the area improves. It should, if not get him checked out. I'm sure things will be fine and know that your bird is very fortunate to have you as its companion, owner, and friend.

I would have it checked by a vet when youhave time. I used tohave a bird witha similar problem. Mylovebird escaped and I found himunder a cardboard box, he was unhurt except for a small flap of skin hanging out from his eye. The skin eventually dried out and fell out though and now he is fine (and missing again...)

If this is new.........watch it.

Your bird seems to be fine right now.
If the eye still seems blood red after a couple days, call a vet and ask if they think it needs to be seen.

If your worried. Call a Veterinarian Hospital. They should be open 24 hour and will help you out.
