I have never owned a bird, but I have taken care of zebra finches for awhile. I want a bird that is relatively small and quiet, and can live on its own or in a pair. It would be best if it was $50 or under. I would also have about one hour or less to spend with it on weekdays, and on weekends it would be with me all day. Any suggestions?

And, if he does recognize himself in the mirror, is he "self-aware?"
My dog often looks at himself in my mirrors at home. He has never barked at the mirror.
Please, serious, informed answers only.

I have a male and femal parakeet. They are about 6 years old now. How come my female never layed eggs. I mean they are in love (they makeout, feed eachother, snuggle and flirt) but they do everything except for the actual mating. Why is this?

My male cockatiel previously abandoned about 6 years ago is fine. He taught me a lot about his kind. Tomorrow I will pick up an abanonded female. I have read about the quarantine period, but right now I NEED TO KNOW do I keep the cages? Across the room or can they be within 2 feet of each other? She will be definately stressed coming from her harsh outdoor environment to a Cockatiel friendly environment. Looking fowared to the quarantine interaction period and got a camera video to record these next few months. Any advice and any site that I have not located are greatly appreciated. Thank you

Our love bird is used to having total freedom in our house and we just moved into our first home. I have heard you can train them to go in one place I have no idea how old he is but he is very intelligent and picks up on new things very fast. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

Just found a bird and are wondering what kind it is. Im in Adelaide, Sth Australia. Ive been throu an australian bird field guide book but cant find the bird in it. The closet to it is crimson and yellow rosellas but the bird doesnt have blue.

The bird is rosella like and the colour which stands out the most on it is yellow...yellow neck, yellow about the head, yellow rump. It has green wings, green face and a green tail. The top of its head, back of neck and the top of wings is an orangy brown colour (more orangy)

I found this yellow Cockatial last fall as it just about froze too death... we couldn't get close too it for the first year... wild.. wild... so it stayed in its cage... lately I have been putting feed on my hand and it has been walking out of the cage and walk up on my hand too eat... which is nice.... and it goes crazy chirping when I come home from work so I sit next too the cage, open the door and visit for 15 minutes and feed her, we kind of have this bond going on... wife is getting Jealous.

sooo... it loves me... I love it... I try too feed it other things but what would be good for her... and possibly she would like? Except for her morning "Hissssss" that I got from her for the first year she has really come out of her shell to be on my hand... Now Tricks?

her wings havn't been clipped or nails trimmed but she seems fine and house is closed up when I let her out and she doesn't fly.. I walk around with her and have put her on my shoulder... she seems to be relaxing.

Can anyone suggest a birdfeeder that prevents squirrels AND black birds from eating all the food? This is what my mother has asked for Christmas but I don't know if it exists. Thanks in advance!
