If you have to ask about mating on Yahoo answers, that's probably a good sign you shouldn't be breeding them. If you're serious about breeding your birds, the best thing to do is contact your vet. If you don't have a vet, try

Don't listen to him, the way to tell a male and female apart is easy. If it is a male, it will have a blue, purple, or any type dark cere. If it is a female, it will have a white, or beige cere. The cere is the waxy area around the nostrils.

Not to be rude, but are you sure they are male and female? Sometimes with parakeets it is very hard to tell. And all parakeets are social.

sometimes, all you need is a nest box. They are a good age, as well. Make sure both birds are in heat. If the females 'nose' is dark brown and more or less crusty she is in heat. if her cere is white, pink, or tan, she is not. a male is dark blue when he is in heat.

Sometimes the stores give their birds pills so they can't mate. They probably won't admit it ,but its so that anyone who wants extra birds can't breed the birds that they had originally.

When breeding birds, you need to have correct temp's, lighting and a good variety of fresh fruits/ veggies. It could also be that you have two of the same sex. Good luck!!
