Remember it is illegal to collect any wild birds eggs even if you found it on the floor it is still against the law to keep it.
Have a look about for a nest in the immediate area and watch for any birds entering or leaving the area.
As to identifyng it from your descricption without the size and a more detailed description it would be impossible.

Just by your description and not knowing where in the world you live, size, shape, etc....it is very difficult to identify eggs. In the US breeding season is over and there should not be any bird eggs around, where do you live exactly? Some birds nest on the ground and some barely build a nest, just more of a "scrape" so it is possible that you took these eggs right out of the "nest". I suggest you put them back as there could be a parent searching for them. It is illegal to collect eggs, and especially illegal to destroy a nest, which you may have done. If the eggs are cracked or damaged in any way, they could have been taken by a nest predator and dropped or left where you found them.

I am unsure of the type of bird but you should know that if it was found without any signs of a parent near at hand, it will not be hatching.
