The life span of a canary is determined by the care he recieves and his genetics, just like people. I had a canaries live past 10 and others died much earlier in their lives. They got the same care, so some of it had to have been genetics.

That being said, it sounds like you have a very special bird. I only had one canary that I could say was truly tame. I hand fed her as her parents abandoned her. Take good care of Lemon and he will live a good life and provide you with great companionship!

Sure they can and sing well too, when used to you. My grandfather tamed canaries. Just have a lot of patience and time. As for house pets maybe if no small children around and large cages. They do go well with other birds in the cages.

It does not matter that the canary is trained as to how long it should live. This is purely dependent on how well it is looked after, most canaries will live 4 to 6 years .

I am afraid I must say the only way that being smart will extened his life is if he outsmarts the cat.

Do smart humans live longer than stupid ones? No. You can't defy longevity by having high intelligence.
