Can ducks fly really high, like.. smaller birds?

Yes.
High enought that you can not shoot them with a shotgun.
They have to come in for alanding before they are in range to shoot.

Wild Ducks such as wood ducks; yes but only around 100m high. Pet ducks on the other hand will not fly as they are fed a good amount and become to heavy
