I just don't get it. Why aren't people seeking proper medical help for their dogs? Is it because they don't like their Vet, don't trust their advice?

I think it is great to come here asking for advice on Training, Food, Toys, Adoption questions......but for medical advice?

Can someone please help me to understand why you would come on here and ask strangers who may not even have a dog for help with your sick one? I'm not talking about advice on clipping your dog's nails or fleas...I'm talking about Parvo, Seizures, Labor- the serious situations. Thanks!

I have 3 female dogs, 7 year old lab mix, 6 yr old lab mix and a 11 mth old lab. We have had the puppy, Kira, for 5 mths and all has gone pretty well. Over the last few days I have noticed that my 6 yr old mix Holly is growling at Kira alot. If Kira walks in the room or comes twords me she growls at her. She will chase her out of a room.

Kira is very demanding of my attentions and very jealous of the other 2 dogs. I have tried to give Holly extra attention but it has not seemed to do much, she is still growling at her alot. My concern is them fighting. I do not want this to happen

Why would she suddenly change her temperament and what can I do about it?

Okay. I was up at the vet's office earlier this morning. My grandmother is the groomer and I didn't feel like staying home. A little boy, maybe 7 walked in. I was sitting in a chair reading Dog Fancy. The boy walked up and asked if the Doctor was in. The lady asked for what kind of animal and what services. He pulled out a pet carrier, the ones that are like $15 at walmart. He opened it carfully and pulled out a rock. You could tell he wasn't kidding. He was seious. He had a collar around its tummy (?) and said he wanted to get a clean bill of health before he gave the pet to his daddy to keep him in company at Rack (iraq). The lady sat there and laughed in his face. She said to go through it in the garden and stop wasting their time. Doctor -- was in surgery and I told the boy to go in exam room one. We looked over him. and I showed the boy how to give him a bath. We checked his heartbeat (thumping the back of the thing convinced the kid). Then I said all healthy. Then he left....

I've just had my 6 week old beardy today. My vivarium is 36" width 18" high 15" diameter.
The vivarium came with everything required but my temp doesn't seem right. It is only 75 degrees at its hottest in the middle of the vivarium. The bayonet bulb is 60 watt and so is the UVB light.
How can I raise the temp? Do I need to get a higher bulb wattage? Will this change the basking area as well?

My mother in law left us her house so we live here. My sister in law used to live here but she has moved three doors down. She left her "mutt" here & this thing has heartworms, covered in fleas, & lives under the house. She comes down to feed it, but this dog is knocking on deaths door. My sister in law says she cannot take the dog because the dog just had puppies (third litter, which were covered with fleas too) & she still has big teets. She said she cannot get her fixed until they dry up. Now, this dog lives under the house so my other two dogs have to be treated monthly with advantage because of the flea problem. I want to know how I can get rid of this dog. I am not inhumane because I have two doxies that live inside the house, but sister in law does not want the dog, or at least she doesn't act like it. Is there something I can give it? I cannot load the dog up and take her to the animal c&c because she will not come to me. She hides under the house? Help??? Not sure what to do.

So, i adopted two kittens from the RSPCA.
They're from the same litter and are brothers.
The thing is, one of them (morris) wasj poorly so stayed at the RSPCA for an extra 2 weeks, when the other (Bo) was allowed home with us so.
So, Bo has had our undivided attention for the past 2 weeks thinking all his toys are his and the house is his etc.
Today we bring Morris home...and they HATE each other.
When they were at the RSPCA, they were kept in seperate cages...so i don't think they know each other.

There's another problem.
They're both 10wks old but Bo is a bigger kitten, at least twice the size. I think Morris must have been the runt of the litter because he is tiny.
So everytime Bo sees Morris, his backs raised and he attack him with his claws and Morris is frightened of him.
Since we brought Morris home (about 6 or 8 hrs ago) Bo has not been playing..right now Bo is chasing Morris around the room!

My husband and I would like to get a Rotweiler puppy. We have a 15 month old daughter, and I would like to have another child in the next year or so. I'm not worried about the child we already have and the puppy, but I am sort of worried about how the dog will except our next child. Also I'm not sure if I want a male of a female, any advice would be much appriciated. Thanks

My question for you got buried in the "who you'd like to meet from Y!A", but what kinds of dogs do you have?

Another question for you...are you completely anti-mutt or just anti-the mutts that idiots ask about on Y!A like designer dogs and dogs that don't exist? Just wondering. By pure coincidence I haven't owned a mutt in years so I guess for now I'm a purebred gal :)

I just think this is a stupid idea. My mother-in-law keeps telling me to do this cause my cat broke my christmas tree down by laying in it i guess all weekend while i was away taking care of my sick mom.
I figured it would be a waste to buy another one cause i know it would do the same to a new one.
I figure by next christmas the cat will be grown and not bother a tree.

I think my neighbor is using pittbulls for fighting. I have no proof though. I have lived in my house for a little over a yr. and he has had three different ones. Yesterday his dog got out and i took it back to him and the dog was very sweet and playful with me and when we go to his dooer the dog seemed to be so scrared and wouldnt go to the owner. he doesnt seem like a very nice man. i felt bad for returning the dog but knew i had to. the dog looks healthy and there are not marks on her but it just seems like a strange situation. I know he doesnt do animal resue. Is there a way to find out or have him checked out. I am such a dog lover and hate to see them being hurt in anyway. I hope i am jsut over reacting.

Hi Everyone,

This is a continuation of a series of questions/updates. See my profile for more info.

I'm happy to report that Spider was back at the barn last night when I went to class. As suspected, she had been hiding in another building on the property. She's doing just fine -- in fact, she's plumper (somebody's been feeding her!). We plan to have her spayed after the first of the year, since she was intent on not showing up for her last appointment.

My question today is -- is there any way to make a cat realize that a particular building, regardless of whether or not there are people there, is "hers"? The ranch owners want her in our building to help control the rodent population.

Thanks a bunch,
Bunni

My 10 year old female tabby cat has just been diagnosed with a small tumour in her throat, I took her to the vets cos she was making funny noises whilst swallowing. He checked her teeth etc and coulnt find anything and on further investigation he found a small hard mass on one side of her tonsil. He reackons its a small tumour. Becasue of where it is he cannot remove it, and has suggested steroids to help try shrink it.
Im scared stiff now, I love my little cat and am worried sick.
is there nothing else we can do to help her?????
