I visited several sites, and they all suggest spraying your tree with Bitter Apple before you trim it. But if your artificial tree is fiber optic, you can spray it trimmed. Also, tinsel and cats absolutely do not mix, and you just shouldn't use it. Tinsel, especially this mylar stuff, is the same as string. It can cause intestinal blockages, or it can actually twist itself around loops of intestine and seal them off.
They also recommended putting aluminum foil around the base of the tree, because SOME cats don't like the feel of foil underfoot. I don't know about that one. But definitely the bitter apple spray, and NO TINSEL.
Good luck.

You could try spraying the tree with bitter apple, cinnamon, or some citrusy-smelling spray: I've never met a cat who likes oranges.
But in the meanwhile, you would do well to get rid of the tinsel. As others have said, the string could far too easily get wrapped around your kitty's intestines.

yeah you really shouldn't have tinsel when you have a cat, or dog for that matter. get rid of the tinsel. if he's eating the actual tree i would take that down. can you get a smaller tree and put it somewhere where your cat wouldnt get into it?

Get rid of the tinsel. You shouldn't have that around cats anyway. There's also cat be gone spray you can buy at pet stores that will keep him away from the tree.

you shouldnt of used tinsel.. first off.. it can cause bowel issues.. like yarn and floss.. and you might need to take your kitten to the vet..
dont decorate the bottom 6 inches of the tree.. .. put the tree in a stand that elevates it up off the ground.. get a smaller tree that can be put on a table.. put the tree in a room that the kitten can be closed from..
I have 2 cats.. and i dont put up trees.. i had cats before and one got shocked pretty bad when he scaled the tree and gnawed into the lights also glass ornaments and those little wire/metal hangers are really bad! dont use them ever.. use the twist-tie kind that can be secured on the branch..

CATS LOVE STRING. Take that tinsel down immediately. It can get wrapped around his intestines and kill him. Tinsel is a HUGE no no when you have cat.
Keep a close watch on him...I would take him to the vet. He most likely needs an x-ray to make sure his tummy and intestines are ok.
