I think my neighbor is using pittbulls for fighting. I have no proof though. I have lived in my house for a little over a yr. and he has had three different ones. Yesterday his dog got out and i took it back to him and the dog was very sweet and playful with me and when we go to his dooer the dog seemed to be so scrared and wouldnt go to the owner. he doesnt seem like a very nice man. i felt bad for returning the dog but knew i had to. the dog looks healthy and there are not marks on her but it just seems like a strange situation. I know he doesnt do animal resue. Is there a way to find out or have him checked out. I am such a dog lover and hate to see them being hurt in anyway. I hope i am jsut over reacting.

Thank you to those who had some kind words to me. And as for the fool who asked if i was "sure it was pit bull" yes. I am sure they are all pittbulls. its not that hard to figure it out. And as for jumping to conclusions... thats why i am asking the question here. I hope to god that i am. And would hate for anything bad being going on and me looking past it when i could have done something. so please, if you dont have any nice to say and helpful.. please dont waste my time. thanks.

No you are not overreacting. Something is up and you sensed it. The dog didn't want to go to its owner for a reason. Dogs aren't dumb and they love their owners....unless they are abusing the dog. I'd call your local animal shelter/humane society and tell them all about it. Something is going on.
***EDIT***
crazy4bul you are an idiot. She has every right to be concerned as an animal lover. Do you think she is mistaken a pit for a poodle? Come on dude. Who cares what breed it is, something is going on if it is scared of its owner. Don't be a jerk.

Well, I guess it is possible that he is running a dog fighting ring. But if he is your next door neighbor, you would probably KNOW, rather than just have a hunch.
Does he have numerous Pit Bulls (or other breeds) that can't be housed together?
Does he frequently have many people over throughout the night?
Do his dogs have scars and marks?
These are just a few obvious things to look for. If you are suspicious, call your local animal control and have them check him out. It sounds more to me like he abuses his dogs, but not by fighting them. So either way I think he needs a visit from Animal Control or the Police.
You can find out more information at this website:

***A lot of people are telling you that you are jumping to conclutions too quickly. I think that it is better to be safe than sorry in a situation like this. Just call animal control or the police. If he is a responsible dog owner, then he will have nothing to worry about anyways....

My dog is not ever been abused nor used for fighting but if he got out and someone brought him home he would rather be loose and not eager to come in. He also cowers and acts like he has been beat if I just raise my voice alittle. It may just be the temperment of the dog. If there were no signs of abuse on the dog , and you have no other evidence other than ...they are pit bulls and the dog didn't want to go back home. I think you are jumping to a conclusion that many jump to about pit bulls and their owners. Another clue is a fighting dog would not have be so pleasant to you, I think.

Keep an eye on the house. If you see or hear any other behavior that worries you, contact the police. Dog fighting is starting to be taken much more seriously, and the police will look into it as long as you have an accusation other than "I don't feel good about it". You could explain the dog's reaction to seeing the owner again though.

"I have no proof though."
I think you are assuming an awful lot.
Maybe the dog didn't want to go back in to be confined to the house after exploring the yard. Maybe the other two did not pan out as pets or guard dogs so he moved on to this one.
Maybe the guy wants you to mind your own business. Owning three different dogs doesn't mean he is fighting them.

So, the dog was "scared" of his owner and you jump to the "he is a dog fighter" bit? Come On People!!! How do you know they are pit bulls? Did he tell you or are just like every other moron who thinks any dog that "resembles" a pit bull is actually one??? Now if it would have had some scars or something, you might have a leg to stand on. A lot of people that show dogs or handle showing dogs, trade or have dogs come and go. Did you ever think about any of that? how do you know that he doesn't have the "previous" dogs still? Maybe the other ones were sick or MAYBE he actually rescues them and then places them in homes and that is why he had 3 since you lived there...
EDIT>>> how are you SURE it is a pit bull? Have you ever raised and bred them or been around them for more than 10 minutes? and as far as wasting your time...maybe you shouldn't waste YOUR time concerning yourself with the affairs of OTHERS. just like the old Hank Williams song: Mind Your Own Business.
EDIT>>>no rebuttal?

You can always call the cops, and tell them that you are suspecting your neighbor is doing dog fighting! Tell them you have no proof, then tell them your story about returning the dgo! They normaly will come out, and if they dont find anyhting then it's okay, they'll be happy they dont have to do anything! Also tell them not to tell him that you called them because that can end up in a bad situation!!!
Good Luck!

Contact the police and tell them of your suspicions, then let them do the investigating.
lashkar-e-hind - it's because the humans involved in doing the fighting a) consent to do it, and b) usually aren't killed in the process or the aftermath. If you are unable to see the difference between humans consentually fighting and humans training dogs to fight, then you're an idiot.

I have done this....call Animal Control in your area and request a Welfare Check on the animals at....give the address....the day I did this, they were there within the hour....and two weeks later they removed the puppies, they were being starved to death. Good luck, and please follow up, these poor dogs don't deserve to live like that.

that's a very good sign something is up. keep on eye on his place. does he have a lot of guys coming over late at night? you might want to report this to the police, ag and animal hospital anonymously. if it turns out your right and they take the dog you might be able to get custody of it. how about paying a private investigator to follow this guy for say a month - 6 weeks. if you can get the proof THEN you nail his butt to the wall!.
even your best friends and closest family can screw you over but animals never lie.
