This is a pretty long answer. Dogs can have allergies to food, things in their environment, or fleas.

Make sure to use a monthly flea treatment like Advantage or Frontline Plus religiously. Feed a high quality food - my allergic dog eats California Natural which is formulated for allergic dogs.

Pay attention to things that might set off allergies - grass, plants, shampoos, etc. My dog is bathed every 2 weeks to a month to remove allergens from his coat.

Benadryl can be used to reduce symptoms - ask your vet what dose is right for your dog. And a vet can give short-term medications - usually steroids to break a bad attack.

If nothing works, you can look for a veterinary dermatologist. My friend found help for her dog this way when nothing else worked.

There are so many issue with dogs and allergies it is impossible to say what one thing will work. Just like humans, allergies in dogs can be related to anything ranging from the food you feed them to the laundry detergent you use on your clothes.

The most common allergies I have seen in dogs is usually related to their diet. A lot of dog food is filled with low quality ingredients, animal by products (all the stuff that couldn't be mass produced) and fillers i.e. corn meal.

Check the ingredients in your dogs food and get him to a vet to have an allergen work-up. Just like an allergy work-up you would have done at the doctors, the vet can do for your dog. While not cheap (my dogs was $500) it saved us both a lot of stress.

Are you referring to skin allergies, respiratory allergies, what?

As others have mentioned an antihistimine such as benedryl can really help. Some dogs may need a special diet or shampoo. Shampoos with oatmeal often help alleviate skin allergies. As with humans, severely allergic dogs may have to take allergy shots every few months.

My dog suffers from allergies. We give him Benedryl and changed his food to Avoderm. It seems to help a lot.

If you're speaking about your dog having allergy problems, see your veterinarian.

If you're speaking about a human have allergic reactions to dogs, then see a physician.

What are the symptoms? What does your Vet say.

My vet advised me to give my dog 1/2 tablet of Benadryl (he is 15 lbs) when he was constantly licking his paws.

It worked but you really need to contact your Vet.

My vets have always recommended Benedryl. It helps the inflammation and itching, it's cheap and safe, too.
