Okay. I was up at the vet's office earlier this morning. My grandmother is the groomer and I didn't feel like staying home. A little boy, maybe 7 walked in. I was sitting in a chair reading Dog Fancy. The boy walked up and asked if the Doctor was in. The lady asked for what kind of animal and what services. He pulled out a pet carrier, the ones that are like $15 at walmart. He opened it carfully and pulled out a rock. You could tell he wasn't kidding. He was seious. He had a collar around its tummy (?) and said he wanted to get a clean bill of health before he gave the pet to his daddy to keep him in company at Rack (iraq). The lady sat there and laughed in his face. She said to go through it in the garden and stop wasting their time. Doctor -- was in surgery and I told the boy to go in exam room one. We looked over him. and I showed the boy how to give him a bath. We checked his heartbeat (thumping the back of the thing convinced the kid). Then I said all healthy. Then he left....

The boy wanted to hear. I held the circle part of the heart beat things (don't know real name) and tapped it. What did I want the boy to think? His dad's rock was dead??

That's the sweetest thing you could have done for that child! I am surprized that your vet employees someone as tactless and rude as that receptionist. You should talk to him about it (or ask your grandmother to talk to him, if you don't know him very well).

What could have been a terribly upsetting experience for a child who already had so much upsetment in his life (with his father in Iraq at Christmas time) will now be a great memory for the little boy! He will be able to give his dad a "healthy pet" for Christmas. Thank you for being so kind and insightful!

awww, that's so sweet of you to help the little kiddo out. That lady sounds rude, I would have been thoroughly pissed off, especially since the kid doesn't need anymore stress (his dad's in Iraq for crying out loud!) Good for you, people like you make me believe there's compassion in this world. =)

You should have set that boy straight rather than perpetuate that stupid lie. He is probably going to be damaged as a result of that...
