My mother in law left us her house so we live here. My sister in law used to live here but she has moved three doors down. She left her "mutt" here & this thing has heartworms, covered in fleas, & lives under the house. She comes down to feed it, but this dog is knocking on deaths door. My sister in law says she cannot take the dog because the dog just had puppies (third litter, which were covered with fleas too) & she still has big teets. She said she cannot get her fixed until they dry up. Now, this dog lives under the house so my other two dogs have to be treated monthly with advantage because of the flea problem. I want to know how I can get rid of this dog. I am not inhumane because I have two doxies that live inside the house, but sister in law does not want the dog, or at least she doesn't act like it. Is there something I can give it? I cannot load the dog up and take her to the animal c&c because she will not come to me. She hides under the house? Help??? Not sure what to do.

The dog hacks non stop, can barely breathe, that is why we think it has heartworms and she is 99% COVERED IN FLEAS.

Call Animal Control to come assist you in 'catching' this poor girl and bringing her to your veterinarian (along with the pups- puppies with fleas quickly become anemic).
Have your veterinarian do complete exams, make proper diagnosis, and treat the mom and her litter. This dog does not deserve such a horrible life.
Either take in the dog once she is healthy and spayed or find a family that will allow her to feel love in their home. This is no life for a beautiful girl. You can either have your vet place the puppies into homes, or you can find wonderful homes for them. Good luck!

Reguardless of the dog living under your house your two inside dogs should be treated for heartworm and fleas and ticks every month. Try bribing the dog out with some wet food or some other type of treat. If this doesn't work tell your sister in law you are going to call animal control to come get the dog if she doesn't take care of it in the next week.

You either need to "force" her out or enlist the sister-in-law's help and it doesn't sound like the latter is going to happen. Try to coax the dog out with food and have someone ready to block it's entrance back under the house. You might need really "good" food, some steak or chicken, not a dry dog biscuit. If you can't get her out, enlist the help of the animal control officers or humane society. Although this probably will not help your relationship with the SIL.
Give your SIL an ultimatum, the dog HAS to go. It is not an option. You are putting your own dogs at risk by letting the dog stay under the house. Also, you SIL will not get the dog spayed or she would have done it a long time ago. It is not inhumane to take the side of your dogs and your family.
Good luck!

Your sister-in-law is a disgusting person. The dog lives under the house and is in this condition? How can you stand it? Call a shelter or the ASPCA or whatever and get this dog picked up asap - they can help you get the dog out. If the dog comes out when your sister-in-law is there, then force her to come and get the dog when animal control turns up. To hell with her opinions on the matter, she has no rights whatsoever in this matter, she's abusing an animal. If I was you I'd give her a big smack in the face once I'd had this dog sorted out and make sure she never gets to own an animal again. Disgraceful.

First of all your sister in law can have the dog spayed even if she's still feeding her pups, it doesn't affect that. Secondly, you should call animal control and get them to come and get this dog so she can be cared for properly. It's sad that your sister in law is so letting this happen. She is treating the dog inhumanely and shouldn't own a pet. Call your local humane society, police, or animal control if you have one and file an animal mistreatment complaint. If you have two dogs yourself that you take good care of then you know that this poor dog is being treated badly. Help the dog out.

Does the dog come to your sister? If she does, get her to get her in a kennel and take her to the SPCA or one of those places like Citizens for Animal Protection Services (CAPS). The latter would treat the animal and make her healthy again. The SPCA, if as sick as she sounds would probably put her to sleep.
The dog likely needs to be put out of her misery. Call animal control or the SPCA. They will come and her. I, personally, would do whatever I could to save the dog, b/c that is just me. I love all animals and it doesn't matter how attractive or what their personality is. I just can't stand to see an animal sufer.
Anyway, call your vet and ask them if there is a place like CAPS near you. They may even have a service to come and get the dog. I'm in Houston, so there is a broad number of services here.

Like everyone else has already said, call Animal Control, they will not only take care of the dog, but can also deal with your idiot sister-in-law.
This animal is suffering and should be euthanized or taken by Animal Control, rehab'd and then given to a good home.

Well it sounds to me like your sister in law is taking the easy way out , I mean if the dog wasn't so sick she most likely would have taken her with her. She is being completely irresponsible and is very inconsiderate towards both you and the dog. I would suggest calling animal control to see how the can help you get rid of this dog. I feel for both of you, poor dog. Good Luck!!!

Tell your sister-in-law to come and get the dog immediately - no excuses - and get it to a vet or you will call animal control today and have them take the dog. The dog is suffering terribly and your sister-in-law is committing animal cruelty and should be prosecuted. Don't put up with this for one second longer.

there is absolutely no reason why your sister in law can't take the dog to the vet. they would be able to treat the fleas and heartworms, as long as she isn't nursing pups, and she's not. tell your sister in law to get the dog treated, or you're going to call animal cruelty.
