I just bought the marineland 350 canister filter yesterday with some gift cards I got for xmas to my LFS.

The darn thing was $110 and I can't even take the top off! I tried to put the polishing filter on last night and I could NOT get the lid off withough getting water ALL OVER the place!

I do not have the 'deluxe' one. Just the regular one.

How are you supposed to change your filter media every could weeks if it just spews water everwhere when you take the lid off? I looked in the instructions and it doesn't give any advice on this subject. This is my first canister filter, HELP!

a friend of mine has a morgan cross in his mid teens,i was thinking of buying him until she told me he has string halt or spring halt i have no idea what this is except that she said it has something to do with his hind legs and stepping high when he backs out of trailer or straight stall,is it curable? is it a chronic lameness that will get worse over time,any information on this would be greatly appreciated,i tried to google it and didn't find much of anything except very old articles from the early 1800-1900s that weren't very informative

Mulereiner's christmas wish got me to thinking. Do you believe the animals can relly talk at midnight on Christmas Eve as legend supports? When younger I used to always try and stay up and see if my dog would talk to me , the the anticipation of actual Christmas day and Santa coming always left me exhausted and I was snoozing longe before midnight. As i got older the appeal of trying to stay up late left me and I never bothered with trying to see if it wad true. Wouldn't it be cool if they could talk at midnight, If they did I wonder what our horses and other pets would say.

Hypothetically, what are the effects of crating a dog and only turning it out for 3 bathroom breaks a day. So, basically 23/hr a day crating, with 2-3 10 minute breaks. Otherwise being crated in a dark quiet room. What are both the short-term and long-term effects?

He rarely comes out and crawls around on his branch or hide in his hut or even go near his water. I have to always dig around to find him. I am a new snake owner as well and I only hold him a few mintues per day, is this enough to get him used to being held?

My cat just had, for all I know, her first taste of the stuff. She went through a flipout period where she was really squirrelly, jumping up at the cords on the miniblind, bolting around the house, jumping in a bunch of plastic sacks on the floor where I was wrapping Christmas presents. Now she is laying beside me and appears to be stoned out of her mind.

Looks like she had a great time with it. Wonder how it feels?

He is a 4 y/o boxer and this is the second time he has been sick in the last week or so. We also have a puppy that was sick 2 weeks ago. They both vomit multiple times when they are sick and the older dog is not having regular BM's. He is lethargic and wont eat.

We just moved into a new house and the water has a odd odor (cat urine smell)
There was a ice storm a week prior to the sickness's and I have noticed the dogs chewing on the fallen branches.

Should i take him to the vet?

Well, I'm babysitting a friend's betta fish, and it was going well.
But my cats looooove Bob the betta fish.
I was just out of the room and someone left the door open for the cats to fing Bob, and they knocked over his tank!
When I found him, I thiught he was dead.
But I put some water back in the tank just in case, and he's alive.
But first he was swimming up, then down over and over again.
Now he's just floating around on the top of the water.
He's in a normal position, except every now and again his backside starts to fall.
Is he okay?
Is there anything I can do?

I ate a cookie with some chocolate on top of it earlier. One of the chocolate chunks fell off the cookie and onto my shirt. The heat from my laptop melted the chocolate. After awhile I moved the laptop and then my kitty Lily jumped onto me and layed right onto the chocolate. I didn't notice for awhile after she got off me and then changed the shirt. She now has chocolate on her chest/armpit area and she isn't letting me take it off.

She hates baths (I really don't feel like having a dozen claw marks on me at the moment..), and I just tried putting warm water on a towel and clean her that way and she started meowing and acting like she was dying lol. Now she is angry and wont come near me..

Any other tips? I threatened to shave her but I think it's a bit too cold for that, haha.

I have just set up a saltwater tank today and i put my hydrometer in the water and it read 1.018. how can i get it to the right level (1.020-1.0300)? also what do i add to it to get the level right? the pH kit also came with a carbonate hardness powder but i don't know what to use it for. could someone please help me??!!!

Okay I just got my first reptile. She is a Leopard Gecko morph and the breeder said that she was born on the 17 of October. So she is still very young and only weighs 14 grams. Anyway, my friend also got a leo as well, however hers explores its surroundings and plays in its tank. Mine however hides 24-7. The only time she ever comes out is maybe for 5, 10 mins top at some point during the night. I know she is a baby and I've only had her about a week, however I'm afraid she is being to reclussive and antisocial. I've gotten her out and she will let me pick her up and she will eat food(when she is hungry) when I offer it. I'm sure I'm just making something out of nothing, but I don't want to end up with a gecko that doesn't do anything exciting. I mean thats half the point of having one, is watching them thrive in their environment. Anyway, my question is, basically, do you think she will "come out of her shell" as she matures and becomes an adult. Thank you for your time!

I hear that dogs are not allowed to have chocolate-as it is like poison for them.

What about cats? I am very careful that I don't let her have any sort of junk food...or anything else besides cat food and milk anyway.

I'm 31 weeks pregnant almost 8 mths. I have 2 cats and most people think that I should get rid of them because they'll try to steal the babies milk right out of there mouths. Is this true? Has anyone had cats and a baby at the same time has the cats tried to do this? It does scare me to think about it. I don't want to hear shame on me either. I need to know and if you have personal expierience (not old wives tales) then please tell me.

My kids brought a kitten home from school and I assumed it was male because its a orange tabby But the other day we noticed he was a she. Can any one tell me how common a orange female tabby is? Just incase, No, I am not going to breed her, I know orange on orange can produce orange females but what is the chance's? 50%, 20% etc...
