Hi all! I just got 2 pug pups and the female has a cherry eye. I would like to have the eye fixed when I have her spayed but she is only 12 weeks old. I have read articles that contradict each other. One says to do it at 5-7 months and the other say earlier. Since pugs are prone to respiratory difficulties, I am worried that her youth may compound the problem. On the other hand, the pup and her brother seem to have difficulty leaving the cherry eye alone :) Does anyone have any experience with spaying a young pup? Is it recommended? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

My father's female pit-bull shih-tzu cross, approx. 3yrs old, has recently begun biting my elderly father and his mother-in-law. The dog was rescued by my father's wife from an abusive owner. The dog had medical eye problems, now corrected by surgery. The dog is very strong, and cannot be walked by my father (the dog is not obedient). She is let to relieve herself in the garage (because she's too strong to be walked).

My feeling is that this dog is inappropriate for my father's family, and that the biting is a result of the dog not being exercised regularly and also not being properly trained. (Their former dog was good as gold with the trainer and unruly at home. Owners not well-trained either!) I also feel that the circumstances are cruel for the dog. My instinct is that they should get rid of this dog and choose a dog suitable for their situation (they need some help here too, previously having chosen a german shepherd-rottweiler cross).

Which is easier: Toilet training your cat/kitten or litter training your cat/kitten? Why is it easier? How'd you do it?

What do you do when your cat does something you do not approve of? like knocking down the small Christmas tree or scratching a kid or knocking off ornaments or trying to eat the lights?

I had a crazy idea. If I put a male and female betta in a ten gallon tank wiht no gravel together with a divider and condition them and do everything by the book and then let them mate, but after one sqeeze from the male I seperate them. Then I put the female in a hopital tank and care for her. After the male has done his job I will put him on the other side of the divider and widen the fry side. When the female has become healed I will put her in a big bowl. Then when the males become aggressive I will put them in their own tanks of one gallon(in a warm spot). Now when the fry become bigger, I will sell them to individuals and my lfs. Is this a crazy idea, and will it work? BTW if i do seperate them after the first squeeze, how many fry am I looking at?

It's the night before Christmas, we're out in the barn,
Blanketing mules to keep them all warm,
They're eating their dinners, tucked in cozy stalls,
Not aware that it's Christmas, or any special day at all.

They can dream of spring pastures from their pine-scented beds,
No visions of sugarplums dance in their heads,
But we people are thinking of merry parties and such,
Maybe feeling a little sad at missing so much.

This season is special but the mules don't know,
We've got work to do before we can go,
We finish the chores and head on inside,
To get ready for dinner and our own yuletide.

It's nearly midnight, the carols are sung,
I remember a story I was told when I was young,
How at midnight on Christmas Eve,
The creatures of the barnyard can speak to us with ease.

I am called to the barn, I wade through the rain,
I know I must go, I can't really explain,
I slide open the door, pause for a while,
Then slowly walk down the dimly lit aisle.

By mistake :( He snatched it out of the holes under the box and I don't know if this McDonalds fry will be ok for him or not because it's so salty.

Prior to being spayed she was very affectionate, playful, and mischeivous. Since she has returned from the vet she spends all of her time under any large peice of furniture she can (beds, couch, love seat). She doesn't come out to eat unless you sit the food a foot from the bed (we have decided not to put it under there with her in hopes she'll come out on her own) and she has only used the litter box ONCE since then. We have a very active and hyper cocker spaniel as well as a male adult cat in the house as well. Is my cat's behaviour normal following this surgery and should we just wait it out or is there something bigger going on here? Thanks!

We jus got brand new 2 month old kitten, just got few questions for people. 1. kitten keeps nipping and scratching (not hard), im guessing this is normal. 2. kitten is shaking abit when i stroke it, im guessing again this jsut means its not yet adjuested to myself or family. 3. The kitten keeps going down back of sofa and under really small gaps and then goes to sleep, shud i close off all these places or let the cat sleep under sofa etc?? PLEASE REPLY!

Ive tried EVERYTHING to assure him that everything is fine but hes still freaked out! I talk to him softly and let him sleep during the day with no interruptions. Ive had him for 2 wks now. He has an awesome cage with a slide, tunnels,a wheel, and a lil hamster relaxing room (part of his cage). He has treats that he loves and a run-about-ball (but he doesnt like that). Everytime I try to hold or pet him he gets freaked out and runs the other way (when I just slowly put my hand in the cage). I tried holding my hand still and putting a treat in my palm but he wont eat them from my hand. I fed him treats from a spoon and he gets it. When I do get to hold him hes always eager to jump off . Please dont tell me to be patient or he'll grow out of it. Ive heared that way to many times for this situation. HELP.

Bingo is my dog and he has been in the family for 16 years. We recently introduced a younger cat, Tiger. When we first took Tiger in, she has been very sweet and playful. We don't mind her playfulness but she constantly keeps running to Bingo, hitting him with her paws, sometimes jumping at him and whacking him in the ear. Bingo doesn't fight back; mainly because his cat chasing days are over.
At first I thought Tiger's tactics were all playful. But with observing them, I feel like she may be jealous.
It seems it becomes Tiger's hobby more and more each day.

What should I do to stop her?

My dog whos 3 now follows me evreywhere! i know he loves me and just wants to be beside me at all times, im the one in the family who feeds him and walks him etc so i know he thinks im the leader or his mom haha well i love how he follows me its just he does it too much, and i really want him to be more independent.
When hes sleeping on the couch and i get up to get a class of water he comes with me when i walk to the door or go to my room hes always behind me.
Is there a way i can get him to be more independent? do any of you share similar stories and have ideas or which i could use?.

Hey, I have a 1 year old cat, she is soooo spoilt. and i love her to death. I live with my family by the way, and she's always around us, goes out for a few hours during the day and spends the rest of the time with us. she even sleeps in my bed etc. and sometimes we're in a room and she thinks we're not home she starts moaning and crying, until i start calling her and she know's one of us is home, then she's ok.

We have to go on a 2 week trip with the family and im scared of leaving her behind. I could get my grandmother to stay at my house.. but im still worried. would she be ok? How do 'really spoilt cats' usually deal with these situations?
