my friend invites me to dinner often. sometimes she locks up her cats and sometimes not. when she doesn't they roam the kitchen and I always find hair in my food, she also thinks it's funny when they claw my legs. what can I do?

You need to tell your friend exactly what you said here so that she knows you are uncomfortable with her cats, and if she refuses to do anything about it, simply decline her future invitations to her place. People shouldn't expect all their guests to be comfortable with their pets, and should be willing to do whatever is neccessary to prevent discomfort while guests are there. I love my kitties (and never let them on the kitchen counters, by the way....very unsanitary, especially since their paws spend lots of time in the litter box) but if someone came over to my place and had a problem with them i wouldn't hesitate to lock them in another room for the remainder of that guest's stay.

Tell her you cannot come over next time, when she asks why tell her your not very fond of claws on your leg or cat hair in your mouth. Just let her know it's not your thing and can she please keep the cats contained when your over, your just not a cat person...even if it is just her cats your not that into.

It not fair to lock an animal up just because of visitors they will then resent you if let out whilst you are there. suggest you go out to eat if the cats bother you. They see it as their house you are the intruder.
