I have a male rat that lives in a wire mesh cage. We use newpaper for bedding so it doesnt keep falling out of the cage and creating a huge mess, we have used this for a very long time with several animals and have never had a problem with it. Recently when I have been petting him I notice that underneath his fur it feels like he has little scabs all over him and I don't know what they are. I feed him a regular whole pelleted diet that the pet store used, and he always has fresh water. Is this something that could be serious or is this typical for rats? Answers appreciated!!!

I am the previous ower of two rotts that i raised from pups and have been the best dogs ever, even my friends agree to this. It just makes me sad that a few bad people raise them for less than desirable reasons. It it just funny that i bought a stuffed rott with a "happy holidays" santa hat on at my local Kroger. Irony, or does the evil Krogre really know the truth??????????

Almost everyone I talk to about cats say as soon as I bring up the subject:
"Ewww I hate cats!!"

But they never seem to have a better answer than
"They're just gross"
I think this is silly, I can understand if you're allergic, but....

P.S I have 2 cats and I'm allergic but that doesnt stop me from lov'in them!!!\

Thanks,
Smiley.

I've raised several snakes from birth/neonate purchases/catches, but I recently got my hands on a neonate timber rattler. Trouble is, I can't figure out for the life of me what I should feed this thing. I've always used crickets for neonates before with no problems, but as far as I can tell, they're equipped to hunt small mammals at birth. Thing is, this snake is far too small to handle even a pinkie. Can anyone shed any light on this?

It seems as though animals are very resilient.

I can hit my dog whenever he does something bad, and then pet him and he doesnt seem to whince like he has a bruise, but if I were to do the same thing to my wife, she will pull away when anyone touches a bruise, whether gently or not.

Do animals just not feel pain like humans?

I have two 5 1/2 month old cats. Ones a girl Felix. And ones a boy Salem. They are from they same litter. And they have never been apart from each other. Well today was there first day away from each other. I had to take salem to the vet to get him nurtured. And Felix was without her brother for 8 hours. Well when I brought him home felix has been mean to him. Hissing at him, growling at him, and She even smacked him with her paw! Usalley they are the best of buddies. Does anyone know why she is doing this? And is there anyway I can get her to stop? He's had a ruff day and now he has to come home to her being mean! I feel bad for the little guy!

"ulcer" right on the center of her eye. Supposedly caused by an injury, it has been treated for 2 weeks with Atropine drops and an antibotic oint. Still no improvement, she continues to hold eye shut most of the time. Examined by vet twice, oint. changed, he said it takes time. I am very worried about her losing her vision or worse yet the eye. Anyone else ever encounter this problem, if so, what was the remedy ?

My poor poodle! She has fleas... I just started noticing them a few days ago. I need some tips on what to buy. We have a cat and rabbit too so it can get to be a HUGE problem for us. What over the counter products do you reccomend? Our cat had fleas about 10 years ago so its been awhile since I have had to deal with this. Before I used this spray on the carpet that you can also put on pets too. I was thinking about getting that as well as a topical thing for the cat and dog like frontline. What about the rabbit though? Will they get on her? What can I use on her?

My puppy is six months old and is a Pekekingnese/ Shi Tzu mix. He has been on Purina Puppy Chow (which I really regret but that is what was recommended) for a few months now, but I am really wanting to get him a better food. After talking it over with my vet he gave me some suggestions. He recommended Iams, Science Diet or Royal Canin.

So, right now I am between Royal Canin and a new food I found tonight, but I'm not sure of the quality. It is called Natural Life. I found an answer to a question earlier where you score the foods based on ingredients and they both scored a C according to my review, with Royal Canin ranking a little lower. To me, that doesn't seem like the best options and I have heard nothing but good reviews about Royal Canin.

I'm going to list the ingredients for both and hopefully be able to get some ideas of what is best. If these aren't the best choices, please give me recommendations. I need something I can get at Petsmart or the Vet.

My dog seems to be alittle agressive when it comes to metting human or other dog strangers, his hair on his back stands up and he growls at humans but when he see's another dog, he growls and AND barks alittle vicously, I personally think it's somewhat of a good thing, that way he can be protective, you know the whole guard dog thing. But at the same time I dont want him to get into trouble like bite another dog or worse a human(he almost snapped at the doctor the other day), then I gotta deal with the legal issues. So I was woundering is there a way I can teach him to be less mean or at least alittle more friendly when it comes to meeting pepole?? He's an American Bulldog by the way.

I just got an eight week old kitten last Thursday. When I first got her, she was bright eyed, bubbly, and full of energy- the typical kitten. Two days afterwards, I took her to the vet and had her examinied, and tested for feline lukemia and given a distemper shot which the vet claimed would likely make her sleepy. He was right. It has been three days now since her appointment, she is still sleepy (not even wanting to play with toys), and acting oddly as if she is having a hard time focusing, she has been trying to throw up, and she is making an odd swallowing movement. She stil purrs and such when I hold her, and she follows me around-but she seems almost "stoned". I am thinking about taking her back to the vet tomorrow- but I'm afraid considering how she is after her appointment. The only cat I've ever seen show similar symptoms was a cat infected with Toxoplasmosis. Has anyone else experienced the same thing after a distemper shot? I'd like to hear of any other cases.

My cat is about 15 or 16. I know it his getting to be his time. Since today, he tries not to walk. He finally ate somthing while I wasnt home. He seems to fall to his right when he tries to stand, but he does have some support on the right side.

I have heard either stroke, or pulled muscle ( I hope). Any thoughts?

My rat (not the one with the abcess) isn't chewing on things as much as she is supposed to. I don't want to clip them myself ( I feel bad enough clipping her and her sister's nails) and don't have the right tools to clip them. would a small mettal file work?
