My 10 month old female cat has been spade but appears to be in heat, is this possible?

It is not uncommon to have a female cat go into a false heat after being spayed. Frequently, there is small amount of uterus or ovary material leftover from the surgery causing the production of hormones to simulate a heat cycle. However, the cat cannot get pregnant because the uterus and ovaries were removed. Common treatment for this problem is to have an exploratory surgery to remove leftover pieces.

With any sudden onset of estrus symptoms and behavioral changes in a spayed female you may want to consider a horomonal imbalance. Any behavioral changes can be an indication of illness. Our recommendation is to take your cat to the vet as soon as possible to have a complete check-up. You would want to rule out any cancerous or tumor development causing a hormonal imbalance. During a spay procedure, they remove both ovaries and the entire uterus. Occasionally, even after removing both ovaries, cats will continue to act as if they’re in heat. This is due to the ovarian tissue that’s in the unexpected location. This ovarian tissue is still functional, and is still producing estrogen. Unfortunately, locating it may be impossible. If you are convinced that they removed all visible ovarian tissue, you can have your vet run a blood test that measures the estradiol level in the blood. A spayed cat should have low levels. If the levels are high, this tells you that there is functioning ovarian tissue still in the cat.

The good news is: because the ovaries and uterus were removed during the spay, the cat cannot get pregnant. The bad news is: the cat being in heat can drive you crazy! There is a medication called Ovaban that can suppress the heat, but it is not recommended because of potential side effects. You may have to bear with your cat’s crazy heat behavior, unfortunately.

I wouldn't say it's common or frequent, but it is POSSIBLE that a small part of the ovary was left and the cat is still going through heat cycles. Your vet can do a hormone test to see if this is true. Definitely let your vet have a look.

Believe it or not, it is possible. However, she cannot get pregnant. The vet may have inadvertantly left a small piece of her female parts, which is enough to cause the hormone spike that will put her into heat.
You may just want to take her to the vet to make sure.

No, once she is spayed she cannot go into heat. When cats and dogs are spayed, all of their reproductive organs are removed. This is called an ovariohysterectomy, which means their uterus, ovaraies, and fallopian tubes are all removed. This is a good thing to do unless you are planning to breed your cat or dog because it prevents cancers, tumors, and other diseases. Good luck and if you have any questions, be sure to ask your vet and be sure to take your cat to the vet regularly.

YES !!!! and can get pregnant as well.
I have 4 adorable kittens to prove it.
My vet says in all his years of practice, he had never
seen this happen -- it is very rare, but it does happen !
