I was 5 and we got a cat named Sooky. I gave her a bath in the toilet because I felt she needed one. She was slippery and soapy and she ran out and hid under the piano for a couple days. My parents gave her away and told me she ran away.

I have grown up with dogs, cats, fish, even sharks, hermit crabs, turtles, hamsters, and even domesticated rats. I love animals. they make a great companion. Dogs are loyal and always stay by your side, cats comfort you when you are sad, fish are fascinating, sharks are awesome to watch, hermit crabs area little slow but are great beginner pets, turtles are a little lazy but are fun and you always know where to find them, hamsters are cute fuzz balls, and rats are actually really smart and not as creepy as most people think. I first time I owned my own pet I was 7 years old and I got a fish. I was overjoyed. When I was eight I got a hamster. They are cute and low maintneance. In third grade my teacher gave my our class pet. I also got a rat sometime between then and now. I have a cat and a dog as a family pet now. I am twleve and I currently have a turtle and a dog that are my own. I reccomend getting a pet! And sorry this is such a long answer! :-)

I know that there were cats and dogs in the family when I was younger then 6 years old, but a parakeet was the first pet I had that I was totally responsible for when I turned 6.
Joyful, amazed at the time, but now it floors me to think that my parents believed I could look after a pet at such a young age.

My family got a cat named Jacob when i was 3 or 4 years old. He was gray and lived inside and out. We were scared of him at first because he liked to bite and claw, but he got over that. Then when i was 5 we moved about 20 miles north and had woods around our house. He liked to be outside in the woods instead of the house and eventually became an all outdoor cat. Soon after we moved though, he ran away. I don't think he ever got used to his new home.

My mum already had a dog when I was born, so I grew up with animals. The first pet I had was a beautiful grey rescue rabbit, and I was 2. My mum bought me a rabbit to teach me responsibility, and I fell in love with him. I called him Peter, and fed him every day, and cleaned him out every week.
I now have a rabbit and 4 guinea pigs, and wouldn't give them up for the world!! :)

Well since I believe in life at conception I would say way back then. Truth is my brothers dog used to lay his head on my mom's tummy and whine at her she thought there was something wrong she took him to the vet and they did every test imaginable to find something, they found nothing. She went to the doctor and found out she was pregnant with me. After birth we have had three dogs and one cat and as far back as I can remember I just loved them and played with them. Today I have 2 dogs and a kitten.

I recently got a 7 week old labrador retriever. It was love at first sight! Then again, I've been in love with all dogs and basically all mammas since I could talk.
*edit* Sorry, that's 'mammals'.

My first pet was a horse, he slept with his head in my window. I loved that horse, and even when it rained the horse stayed right outside my window. He protected me, and was great. I was only a few months old, but from what I heard we had him for a little while.

I've grown up around animals. I believe we had a dog, when I was an infant, so it just seemed natural. I didn't really have any initial reactions.
