I have checked out refacing but you have to install yourself plus paint the base or apply a matching veneer.

I'm going to replace all the interior doors in my house. Is it better to buy slabs and mortise/bore/hang them myself, or buy pre-hung doors?

My hubby and I just moved into a new house and we need something to do with our dining room. I know it seems obvious... dine in it, but we are a very casual couple who doesnt have formal sit down dinners. For us it would be a waste of space and money to go buy a formal dining set that we would never use. We have an eat-in kitchen for meals and a family room that we watch tv in. So we're left with a big empty room in the front of the house. Any suggestions on what we can do with the space?

Also, I already turned one of the bedrooms into an office, so pls dont suggest we make it an office. Any suggestions are appreciated!

There are carpet squares or "tiles" on the market that you can install yourself supposedly quite easily and replace a "square" if you damage the carpet over time. I was wondering if anyone has tried them and do they install fairly easily and look as good as professionally installed rolled carpet?

The countertop is kind of a medium pink berry color Not bright, but has dark undertones. Two of the adjoining rooms have garnet and loganberry red accent walls that are visible from the kitchen. I am having a hard time trying to pick a color so all will flow and not clash. Help, please!

I have an aquarium stand which is particle board covered with some kind of adhesive "natural wood" looking finish which is chipping off because its gotten wet when I clean my aquarium. I also have an Ikea particle board tv stereo stand which has watermarks. Can anyone tell me of how I could make it look new again without paint? I have parrots and can't paint around them. I live in a one bedroom apt. and it's winter so can't open windows? Could something like walpaper be used? Any website which would show some ideas would be great
Thanks

Hi - We've never done any major works in our house and have never employed a builder.

We are having a new kitchen, understairs loo, knock thru, fireplace removal, electrics, new boiler, new french doors.

So its going to be a good 4-6 weeks.

We've been quoted 12k for the labour alone. is that a fair price?

I am looking at a home from 1939. i know asbestos was used from like the1970's back very often.
i want to lay down different flooring in the kitchen, however i do now want to mess with the removal of the crap(asbestos)
is there a way to put flooring down without having to get all this professional removal done. and no i don't want to mess with doing it myself either.

Anything bigger than a twin... My boyfriend and I fight over space everynight!
We just moved in together about 2 months ago & we decided it's time to buy a bed.

Maybe even one of those pull out futons? That would save space.

We placed tile on the bathroom floor and this was our first time. We were grouting the tile and we only had a 3 foot square area to go and ran out of the white grout to go with the grey and white marble looking tiles. So I went to the store and got more grout, not until we mixed and placed the grout did we notice that it did not match, it was a shade darker. We thought it might dry lighter so we left it and we did not want to remove it. We thought going over the rest with a thin layer of the darker would fix it, but it looks worse and did not really adhere to the other grout. What can we do to fix without removing the grout? Is there a paint or bleach we can go over it with that will last?

I was thinking of a dark red but I am a little scared because my cabinets are going to be a darker brown, and I am afraid I will make it to dark. Another concern is that the kitchen and living room are very open. I will have to paint them both the same color and that is not to much of a problem but the living room is open two storys and that means that I will have to paint the upstairs the same color also.
