There are carpet squares or "tiles" on the market that you can install yourself supposedly quite easily and replace a "square" if you damage the carpet over time. I was wondering if anyone has tried them and do they install fairly easily and look as good as professionally installed rolled carpet?

They look ok if they are of a pattern or placed in a pattern. Where the seams will make sense. For example if you have a patterned rug then it will be ok because the lines will look a part of the whole scheme. Or if you choose 2 similar colors and lay the carpet in some kind of pattern - then again it will look fine because the lines the seams form will make sense. For solid color carpets it does not look good at all. It can work with a little extra effort and can be cost effective as well.
Good luck.

In the short term, yes, they look pretty much the same. But over time, you run the risk of having the tiles damaged in some way. And I don't care what you do, you can't make a new carpet square look like the surrounding, older carpet. The new tile will stick out big time.

i know someone who used them to make an area rug, it's been a couple of years now and i don't think it looks good anymore - it hasn't worn well. you could tell from when it was new that it was tiles, it doesn't look the same as rolled carpet, but not necessarily bad.

They look like carpet tiles. It won't look like one continuous piece of carpet.

They look fine... for an office.

I had a friend that tried them and they looked terrible (you could see the lines) and pulled up too easily. She may have just gone with cheap ones, but I'm not about to try them out.

no gross ... they look fine when installed, but give them a couple years and you can see all the lines and etc and they look gross.
