Empire Carpet quoted me this today. Is $1,500 too high for buying and installing red oak on 6 stairs? They haul and dispose of the carpet and pad, too.

I will have hardwood flooring in my hallway and my adjacent laundry room will be tile. There't no actual door in the opening into the laundry room, so how far do you run the tile and hardwood? Do you split the difference in the center of the doorway, or bring the tile out to the edge of the hallway? Tile and hardwood on each side of the wall and a threshold between the two for the depth of the plate?

I am thinking of redecorating my rented apartment and I realize that I have no idea where to place furniture, where to find what I want, etc. I could use some expertise. What does an interior decorator actually do? Can they get you better prices on furniture, etc? How much should I expect to pay for their services?

I just bought an older home and I need ideas on what color to paint the kitchen. The cabinets are a dark cherry and the kitchen also has chair rails. Above the chair rails I am going to paint an eggshell white but I want a stand out color for below the chair rails. Previously there was wall paper (didn't like it). I also want a color that want clash with the dark cherry cabinets. Please give some advice or ideas?

I've just bought a new house and have been looking at sofa suites for the living room. I've seen one I like but I've never done this before and I'm paranoid that it won't fit through the door. Can anyone do the maths for me and let me know if it will fit? The door is about 73cm by 190cm and the sofa is 196cm long, 92cm deep and 90cm high.
