Empire Carpet quoted me this today. Is $1,500 too high for buying and installing red oak on 6 stairs? They haul and dispose of the carpet and pad, too.

if standard stairs, 3-4 ft. wide, yes....the material per step is about $40.00 per step.....carpet haul off is about $ 100.00....labor for stairs even if they do the finishing would be about $80.00 per stair.....tell them no and call someone in ur area that does nothing but install hardwood flooring and stairs ( a installer not a company)..

lic. gen. contractor

This is not really an unreasonable price, as it is a very labor intensive job. It would take longer to install these steps, than it takes to install a couple of rooms. Further, the stair nosing, which comes 6ft 6 inches (hopefully will do 2 steps) is very expensive, around $60 each.
I never reccomend wood on stairs, as not only is it very expensive, it is also noisy (especially if the home has kids) and it is also harder, and more dangerous should you fall.

great undertaking. do no longer do away with the plywood except there is injury that can not be repaired. in easy terms a instruction manual, yet you are able to purchase a pair containers of hardwood stained merely the colour you decide on from a floors keep. many times circumstances they have left over containers from a huge activity and could sell them to you low priced. consistently place the riser on the tread. in the experience that your cuts are actually not applicable, to no longer subject. the place the riser meets the tread you are able to placed a bead of sparkling silicone and not see extraordinary cuts. I do it each and every of the time. have relaxing

Depends on the structural questions. Are they actually replacing treads and risers? If so, it's quite reasonable. If they are applying a veneer, think twice.

Yes that is too high...you should go to the Home Depot. I work there and it would be hundreds of dollars cheaper.
