A fireplace is more aesthetically attractive - but a wood-burning stove can reduce heating costs considerably - and it keeps working during electrical outages - a frequent occurence in some communities.

I have a new hobby of making wooden bowls on a wood lathe. Have tried several types of finishes, but don't know the best ones that will last a long time and still be compatable with using them as fruit or bread bowls. They will be lined with a cloth napkin when relatively dry fruits or breads are placed in them, so I don't think moisture would be much of a problem. Thanks. Ron

Im currently burning off all the old paint in my hallway, and the telephone cable runs up the side of one door. I've managed to unfasten it from the door frame but it has about 10 layers of paint on it and Im unsure of how to get it all off.
Will chemical paint remover be safe to use or will it burn through the plastic cable?

I am a bachelor and my new Pad has Really Blue carpeting, white walls and a brick accent wall. I want to go with a color scheme that is masculine but do not know what colors work well with Blue and white that do not look to juvenile. Any Ideas appreciated! The brick color is a combination of light red, light orange and some black antiquedbricks.

I was thinking of using the exact same color/paint for wall and ceiling. Does any one have any thoughts on if this is a good or bad idea.

My adolescent son's carpet is stinky. Truly smelly. The carpet was there when I married my husband, and so is probably about twenty years old. I would say just rip it out but it LOOKS really, really good. The flooring beneath it is slab concrete. It has a musty/high odor, and sometimes actually wafts down the hall to the living room. I have shampooed the carpet numerous times, twice I have used full strength Febreeze in the shamp;ooer tanks.....this works great. For a few days. Right now we cannot afford new carpet, and this is just maddening. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am looking for a table light that has a shape of a 'boy.' It looks like a little man on AOL, but the head part is where the light bulb is. Does anyone know where I can find one?

My office walls have a mid-level molding that separates it. On the bottom I have a brown wall paper and the top is painted. Well my business partner wanted a deep brown on top so we tried it and it does not look good at all, so the question is how I fix it with out repainting the whole office again. What I was thinking is a maybe a light brown mixed with glaze over the top to give it a kind of faux look. But the problem is with faux jobs the light paint is usually the base coat, so has anyone had any experience with the top layer being the light coat instead of the dark coat. THANKS
Brad

I am thinking of remodeling our bathroom, and we have wall tile and grout. Its hard to clean and it always looks yucky to me. I'm wondering what you all recommend. A fiberglass shower, stone with fewer grout lines, or is there some kind of material that looks like tile, but is easier to clean? Tell me what you think. Thanks!!
