We are replacing the shower walls and putting in a new surround. We have a hot and a cold and a mixer knobs and a spigot that we need to cut holes for. How do we measure this to be able to cut the holes? Any tips would be great.

If you are installing a fiberglass tub surround, then it mounts directly to the wall studs. You should measure from the inside corner to the location of the pipe and then transfer that measurement from the wall mounting flange on the tub to the surround. You may have to make these marks on the backside of the surround. If you use a hole saw for an electric drill, the kind with a pilot bit on the center, drill from the backside until only the pilot bit comes through on the good side and then drill from that side to avoid the fiberglass chipping. There are trim rings that go over the water shutoffs, make sure the holes you drill are slightly larger than the pipe but smaller than the trim rings. Unfortunately you only get one chance at this. Good luck. Remember the old saying: Measure twice, cut once!

As mentioned above, you only get one chance at this. Make a template out of the box your surround came in. Remember, measure once, curse twice.
