I was thinking of using the exact same color/paint for wall and ceiling. Does any one have any thoughts on if this is a good or bad idea.

can look good if the ceiling is high.
can bring the ceiling "down" if it is too low.
really depends on the room
you can pick up some software quite cheap and use it to "paint" your own photo - i have used the Dulux one recently and it really gave me some good idea of how it will look

That all depends on the color you are using and the room decor. I've seen it pulled off where it looks great and other times it looks hideous. Try imagining the room with the same color on the ceiling maybe even paint a piece of cardboard that color put some paint tape on the back and stick it up on the ceiling to help get a better idea. My thoughts are go with what you like. You are the one living there, so you are the one that should like it.

This very much depends on the color you have chosen. If it is a light color it should be fine. Using the same color every where can be boring though and using a dark color on the ceiling may make the room look too dark and closed in.

This is not recommended. You could add a bit of the colour of the walls to white ceiling paint. This would look good. Other than that I think you should stick to white. A dark colour will make the ceiling look lower.....claustrophobic.

I tried adding just a hint of the color of my kitchen walls into the ceiling paint but I felt it made the room appear dull. I have a big kitchen, so you'd think that wouldn't be the case, but it was. I don't recommend it.

If it's a small room, I don't recommend this. But, icy blue on wall and ceiling looks good and if it's a really large room, you can use a dark color like eggplant but only if you get a lot of light.

I recently painted our entire home and the popular suggestion was to have your ceiling lighter than your walls. I was just going to leave it WHITE White, but it looks nice to not have my walls be too stand-outish. I used (Dutch Boy) Champagne bubbles for my walls and Popcorn for my ceiling. I am very happy with the way it turned out.

um...well... you really don't want to clash the colors... so i think you should do a lighter shade of the color for the ceiling AND if you're doing the trim do a darker color than the ceiling AND the wall

Don't do that. select the lightest shade from the same color family. the variation draws the eye from the ceiling into the wall and around.

To make the room look taller use ceiling white, it does great job.
