If this is for a house? You need to get the following:

A)Floor receptile B)"Romex" 3 wire/12 gauge that will safely reach from the outlet to main power pannel and C)Staples to secure the wire.

D)Read a book on basic home electrical work- "Sunset" has a nice book for homeowners.

E)In this case, run the electrical wire from the power panel to the outlet, and the reason why is floor electrical outlets normally have a far greater draw of power- if you run it as a dedicated line, then it will handle safely 16 amps- if you tap into another line, you'll probably get "nusance tripping" of the circuit breakers.

Good Luck

Bad idea as far as I'm concerned. Dirt collector, and watch out if you spill something over it. I see them under coffee tables at friends houses and wonder what would happen if I were to spill a drink.
