There are some very light but warm thermal blankets out there at any store that sells bedding. (looks like a waffle square pattern). Get two of them and you should be fine. I have one made over ten years ago and if it gets really cold I put the bedspread over the top of it and use flannel sheets and pillow case. I have never had to turn on the heat in my bedroom during the winter and the temperature gets down around 34º inside.

A high fill power down comforter will keep you warm for many years, and will still be light enough in weight so you don't feel smothered. You can get some good prices and quality at QVC, a duvet cover or two and you will be set for many years.

Walmart has some very nice ones on sale right now. If it is very cold there, you should buy more than one blanket.

If you need to stay warm, you can't beat a good wool blanket. Woolrich carries several good ones and you can order from them, online.

If you want a blanket instead of a sleeping bag, try a military surplus store. http://www.sportsmansguide.com probably has some options.
