whatever you have, it can look put together.

Do tan on one wall and if you like it, put it on the other 3. Or do a darker tan on one wall and the other 3 walls in a light tan. Do not mix red anything with green couches. If you are not allowed to paint at all, Hanging up colorful artwork or batik tapestries works(search it on ebay)

Go to www.theroomstore.com if you are on a budget. Get dark wood coffee table and some nice lighting sets. Nothing has to match exactly but it should look like it goes together. It should be something you like.
Get some nice matching brushed silver(not shiny silver) picture frames and hang up pictures and stuff that mean something to you.
www.homedecorators.com has some very nice rugs (choose woven or modern) for around $50 - 200+.
You can do the whole room for $200 to $1000.
You will feel more grown up, the ladies will appreciate it and it will give you something to chat about when you have people over.

Hi

Go with a solid colour paint throughout the whole area. Divide the different areas by using different colours e.g. the kitchen utensils and accessories, the carpets in the "lounge", the "bedroom".

Hope this helps...
Good Luck
